#doodle tutorial

your first step is going to be making a moodboard as you normally would. Find your pictures, compile them with photoshop. @dear-indies has many moodboard and aesthetic templates at any given time :0c

once you do that and place your psd and all that good stuff, you’re going to want to make sure that your whole moodboard is one whole base layer. If this is daunting you can save and reopen as a PNG. Just make sure that you start this next step with ONE BASE LAYER.

Make a clipping mask group out of your moodboard and add 3 or so layers. This is where you’re going to doodle. This will keep you from doodling in the transparent area.

Now you doodle! As much or as little as you like :D (note: this is going to take practice to look how you want. keep trying! Experiment and play with it!)

Once you’ve doodled and are satisfied you need to open the animation window as frames and make frames from layers.

Once that happens, it’s going to look like this for a hot minute:

okay so now that you’ve done that, you’ll have 4 animated frames, but you only need 3.

cut this one loose. It’s going to throw your whole game off.

then select all frames and set the delay to 0.2 seconds. That’s the time I find generally works best for these edits. But again. Play around with it.

Make sure it loops forever and then save it as a gif.

I use PS CS5. And you can find PSD's on resources accounts (yeahps, completeresources, etc), also the images you can find them on WeHeart It or Pinterest.

For this edit, I do two types of images: with sparkles (here is the tutorial for that one) and with doodles.

I'll start with the doodle one 'cause I guess is the most important of both. Open up a new file of 268 px x 400 px (x) (or any size you want. I usually work with this) and select the images for your edits (I use 3 of color and 3 with a neutral color of bg). Add the PSD and some text and when you have it all just like you want, merge the layers (x).

Now, doodle time! :) Open the "Animation" frame. Window > Animation; and you'll have something like this. (x) Now, create two extra layers for your edit, and two extra frames (x). In the first frame, you just let the visibility for the first layer (x); in the second frame, you let the visibility on the second layer (x), and do the same for the third one (x). Adjust the time as your convenience; I set it on 0.1 sec, or sometimes 0.2. The first frame will stay empty. In the second frame you will press the brush tool (x) and start to draw. What I usually do is a white line right next to the image (x) and in the third frame (3rd layer) you draw again, but this time, not like the first one; you can make a free draw. (x) As you can see, in my edit, I used 2 different kind of doodles (the last to get to repeat), so, you can add as many layers and frames as you need, just check out the visibility of them and that's it! Here is your result.

Para este edit, uso dos tipos: el de brillos, (aquí está el tutorial para ese), y el de doodles (o garabatos).

Comenzaré con el de doodles porque asumo que es el más importante, o el que más interesa, de ambos. Abres un archivo en blanco y nuevo con las dimensiones de 268px x 400x (x) (o las dimensiones que quieras. Yo usualmente trabajo con estas), y seleccionas las imágenes para tus edits. (Yo uso 3 de color y 3 de un neutro, casi llegando a gris). Agregas el PSD y algún texto que prefieras, y cuando ya lo tengas todo, acoplas las capas (x).

Ahora, ¡los doodles! :)

Abres la ventana de Animación. Ventana > Animación; y tendrás algo como esto (x). Ahora, creas dos capas extras para tu edit y dos cuadros de animación más. (x) En el primer cuadro, vas a dejar la visibilidad para la primera capa; significa que borrarás la visibilidad EN EL PRIMER CUADRO de las otras dos capas (x); dejarás la visibilidad en el segundo cuadro y la segunda capa (x), y harás lo mismo en el tercero (x). Ajustas el tiempo a tu conveniencia; yo lo ajusto en 0.1 seg, o a veces en 0.2 seg. El primer cuadro estará vacío, no vas a dibujar o a hacer nada ahí. En el segundo cuadro, vas a seleccionar la herramienta del pincel (x) y comienza a dibujar. Lo que usualmente hago es una línea blanca junto al dibujo, como un marco (x) y en el tercer cuadro, tercera capa, vas a dibujar de nuevo, pero no como el primer dibujo; puede ser un poco más libre (x). Como pueden ver, en mi edit, he usado 2 diferentes clases de doodles (los últimos dos se repiten), así que, puedes agregar cuantas capas y cuadros necesites para dibujar, sólo revisa la visibilidad y ¡listo!, aquí está el resultado.
