AGE AT ARRIVAL: Finnegan is approximately 6-7 years old and Frank is approximately 3-4 years old ARRIVAL DATE: February 28th, 2023 BREED: Lhasa Apsos GENDER: Neutered Males ADOPTION FEE: $350 per dog NOTES: Finnegan and Frank are a pair of Lhasa Apsos who came into Hamilton Animal Services as strays. They were severely matted when they arrived, but they were happy and friendly boys. No owner came forward to claim them and we were happy to bust them out of the shelter. Their foster mom took them for a much needed grooming, and now they’re looking and smelling fantastic! Everything went well with their neuter surgeries, and now they’re ready to find their forever homes. Since coming into our care, Frank and Finnegan have had little spats. Nothing too serious at first, but over time, the fights escalated to the point that fur was flying and they had to be pried apart. There wasn’t a clear trigger for their aggression towards each other, but the frequency and level of violence reached a breaking point, and they had to be separated. They’re still living in the same home and can see each other for visits and walks together, but they cannot be trusted to be together full time anymore. After long discussions between their foster family, our vets, and a professional trainer, the collective decision was made to make Finnegan and Frankie available for adoption separately. We know this will be disappointing to some, but this isn’t a decision that was made lightly. It was made to protect the dogs and their caregivers from potential serious injury. Should there be any questions or concerns, Frank and Finnegan’s foster family and the trainer are both available to chat with potential adopters about the situation. AGE AT ARRIVAL: Approximately 3 years old ARRIVAL DATE: February 24th, 2023 SPECIES: Guinea Pigs GENDER: Neutered Males ADOPTION FEE: $70 for the pair NOTES: Yukon and Russet were surrendered to Hamilton Animal Services because of allergies in their owner’s family. We were happy to get these cute pigs out of the shelter and into the warmth and safety of a foster home when one became available. Yukon and Russet had a vet visit and they were given a clean bill of health. We had them neutered, and now they’re ready to find their forever home! We’re asking that Yukon and Russet be adopted as a pair. They’re the best of friends! These guys LOVE their greens. Their favourites are romaine lettuce, dandelion leaves, and kale. The only greens they’ve turned their noses up at is arugula. They are talkative piggies, and they will be sure to let you know if their daily snack is even a minute later than usual. Yukon and Russet poop quite a lot, so their adopter must be willing to do a sweep up or shake out of their fleece bedding at least once a day. Yukon is friendlier than Russet, but they can both be handled as long as your movements are slow and gentle. They’re currently housed in two Midwest Guinea Pig Habitat cages attached together, and they take full advantage of all the space. They love the time they get to spend out of their cage, and they follow each other around as they explore. AGE AT ARRIVAL: Approximately 4 to 5 years old ARRIVAL DATE: November 8th, 2022 GENDER: Spayed Female ADOPTION FEE: $200 NOTES: Someone abandoned Nyssa between the doors of an apartment building. Hamilton Animal Services was called, and she was brought to the shelter. Nobody came forward to claim Nyssa, and we were happy to take her in. We had her spayed shortly after she arrived. Because of allergies, Nyssa was scratching her fur to the point that she had to wear a cone to stop it. After adjustments to food and medication, Nyssa is finally itch free, and is ready to find her forever home! Here’s a note from Nyssa’s foster mom: “If you are in need of a friend who is playful, chatty and snuggly, Nyssa is the friend for you! Nyssa is a young cat who has the energy of a kitten, the snuggles of a senior and the chattiness of an extrovert who has been stuck inside for 2 years. Nyssa is great with any dogs in the house. She was comfortable within 20 minutes of coming to her foster home. She is a bit bossy and isn’t afraid to put them in their place, but hadn’t been aggressive to the dogs in the house or any dogs that come to visit. She hasn’t been around any cats, but with proper introduction, we are sure she would be fine. Nyssa has some serious prey drive, so toys that she can chase and destroy are necessary. She also loves sitting in the window and watching the birds. Nyssa also loves a lap or a bed to snuggle. She currently sleeps on her foster family’s bed. She also loves snuggling under the blankets. She is an expert at making biscuits. Nyssa has some serious love of food. She is extremely chatty around dinner time and will start to get hangry when we are a bit slow at getting her food together. She is currently on a high fiber and hypoallergenic food to combat allergies. She also gets a small dose of steroids once a day to help combat her allergies to environmental allergens. DATE OF BIRTH: March 30th, 2018 ARRIVAL DATE: November 1st, 2022 (originally April 9th, 2018) GENDER: Neutered Male ADOPTION FEE: $200 NOTES: Back in 2018, we rescued a mom and kittens from Hamilton Animal Services. Mama Zelda was found pregnant and dumped in a conservation area. Shortly after she arrived at the shelter, she gave birth to three healthy babies! In her foster home, Zelda did a great job raising her babies and they were all adopted. Hemingway and Fitz were adopted together, and everything was fine up until recently, when Hemingway became increasingly aggressive towards Fitz. Eventually, the aggression became so bad, their bond was broken. Their adopters tried absolutely everything to try to re-bond the two, including vet visits and medication. They went above and beyond to try to help the brothers be friends again, but all their efforts were to no avail. The aggression is to the point that the two cats cannot be together any longer, and it’s best for both cats for Hemingway to find a new home. Hemingway needs a home where there are no other animals. He’s a lovely boy when there are no other cats around. He has a condition that causes crust to build up around his eyes. The condition does not cause him any discomfort, and his veterinarian advised that no medication or treatment is required. Hemingway will just need his humans to wipe away the crust with a warm cloth when it builds up. Here’s a note from Hemingway’s current home: “Hemy is a loving cat who can be very independent. He likes to sleep on the cat tree or the back of the couch. He can give you some sore shins from the head butts he likes to give while you are standing. He’s not the most snuggly cat and doesn’tmoods where he will curl up on you, especially if you have a blanket on. He likes toyon strings where he can run back and forth, and jump around.
