Has anyone seen the film Spencer? If you have there is a scene in which the Queen has her palace staff weigh her guests upon arrival and departure for Christmas. Apparently if they weigh more when they leave it is a sign that they have enjoyed themselves. I was dubious of this as film folklore but when I looked it up I discovered it is a long standing Royal tradition. Weighing scales have been used at Christmas dinner in the Royal household since the 1900s dating back to King Edward Vllβs reign. Both family members and guests alike were weighed before and after their meal. Apparently the King wanted his guests to be merry and full which translated into them being a few pounds heavier when they took their leave!!! This scale is remarkably similar in appearance to the one used in the film but mine is from Doncaster Racecourse which is the oldest racecourse in England dated 1884 and was used to weigh in jockeys. #spencerfilm #doncasterraces #jockeyscale #gifts #unusualgifts #designer #decorator #setdesign #vintagedecor #ressurectedoddities #wehoshopping https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ5mLZsFXJh/?utm_medium=tumblr
