He refuses to leave your side. His whole body is a perfect mix of worry and protectiveness, pacing around your bed like a restless guard dog until you reach for his hand, whisper his name. Then he crumbles, sinking down beside you with eyes glossy and too blue, whispering “Angel, you scared me half to death.” He fusses with your blanket, insists on spoon-feeding you broth even though you’re perfectly capable. The moment you wince, his whole world stops - thumb stroking your cheek as if by sheer will he can take the pain away. At night, he props himself up on the pillow and lets you lay against his chest, murmuring “I’ll stay awake… just in case you will need me.”

Money can buy the best doctors, the softest linens, a whole staff to monitor you - but nothing can peel him away from your side. Shirt slightly undone, hair mussed from stress and his relentless pulling, Clayton sits beside the bed and massages your hand with his long fingers, whispering reassurances and love declarations. He watches you breathe, almost reverent, as though you’re too precious to let out of sight. “Don’t even think about lifting a finger,” he scolds gently when you try, already on his feet to do it for you. When you wake groggy from painkillers, it’s to the smell of lavender tea he personally prepared and the warmth of his lips against your temple. He won’t admit it, but seeing you fragile terrifies him; so he smothers you in care to keep himself steady.

One way to describe him is rough but when it comes to you? He’s all soft heart. He doesn’t really know the right words, so he just does. James props your pillows, changes your bandages with those big careful hands, even reads the labels three times over before giving you meds. He cracks nervous jokes to make you smile - “You look cute even with the hospital socks, babe.” When you fall asleep, he just sits there, chin in his palm, watching. He swears he’ll take on the world if anyone so much as makes you wince. “I got you,” he whispers, more to himself than you, brushing hair from your forehead like you’re his whole anchor.

He softens then, tucking the blanket around you with trembling fingers. He talks endlessly, little stories and distractions so you don’t focus on pain. And when he thinks you’re asleep, he presses the sweetest, most feather-light kiss to your hand and whispers, “I’ll take care of you. I swear.”

Possessive. Overbearing. Obviously terrifying for everyone else but when it comes to you, his hands are unexpectedly gentle. He stations medical droids outside your room, forbids anyone from entering except him. If he will at least hear about someone entering without his supervision/acceptance, in his eyes such person shall die. When you stir in pain, his gloved hand cradles your cheek, voice lowered to a rumble: “Rest, angel. I will not allow anything to harm you again.” even tho nothing truly harmed you, it was just a surgery. He feeds you himself, steadies the cup against your lips, refusing to let you lift a hand. At night, he might let himself just sit on the other side of the bed, holding your hand.

He doesn’t bombard you; instead, he makes the space soft and warm, curtains drawn, a playlist humming low in the background. Just breathe with me.” He tells stories, gentle humor to keep your mind elsewhere. And when you drift off, you feel the weight of his hand wrapped around yours, grounding you. I’ve got you.” He sits on the edge of the mattress, thumb brushing the back of your hand while he tells you stories or distracts you with quiet conversation. And when you start to drift, his lips graze your forehead with the kind of reverence that makes you feel completely safe.

Don has this calm, pastoral warmth about him. He’s not overbearing, but deeply, sincerely present. He’ll pray softly over you, for quicker recovery but not in a pushy way. More in this caring manner before pressisng a gentle kiss to your hand. He brings blankets, fluffs pillows, reads to you passages of comfort or even just a book he knows you love. Every movement is unhurried, careful, like he’s making sure you never feel alone for a second. And when the pain hits harder, he holds your hand firmly in his, voice steady: “I know this hurts, but you are not alone in it. I’m right here, love.”
