Good evening, beautiful souls. This evenings bed time story is a tale of Victoria Redbard's happy birthday. It all began the night Ruben and I came down from Koonjewarre. As we told Vic our stories of 30 men being initiated into their masculine, she states, "I want a sweat lodge for my birthday. Build me one." The queen has spoken! The universe came together. Free bamboo on Gumtree. I just had to sword battle, Young Blood Blake. We spent a morning trying on outfits at op shops and paid $20 for a whole heap of blankets. We asked Spirit for rocks. 22 came to us from the property, various mountains and Morrie's favourite walking spot. On Vic's birthday on Sunday, we get home from the waterfalls to Rubey sweating it out mowing, collecting firewood, and touching up the bamboo dome. Collectively we wired the blankets on and then sat in circle as the sun went down. There was 12 of us. We welcomed in all of our ancestors, on whose shoulders we stand. We sent gratitude to the Budjelung nation, on whose shoulders we stand. We set intention on what we released. As I crawl into the temazcale I touch my forehead to the ground, "All of my relations." I say. Welcoming them, as I enter the womb of the Earth. She's holding me now. The door faces the east. The fire is just outside. Ruben told me that's Peruvian sweat lodge tradition. 'In Peru, rather than welcoming the rocks as Grandmothers or Grandfathers, we chant "Apochai" which means 'mountain magic.' Kit and Raquel hand me the pitch fork with the first round of rocks. 'Apochai, apochai, apochai.' As I place the red hot rock into the centre everyone screams, 'APOCHAIII!' The heat has begun.
