Anniversary by nothing in common*

this week i got to show ‘interstellar clouds no longer in the universe’ at an incredible artist run space called DOK. (you can find more information about the space here http://www.dokartistspace.org/) 

essentially it is a steel shed where the possibility of hammering a nail into the walls to hang work was non existent. this proved to be a massive learning curve in a) hanging work with magnetic tape and b) viewing the work in such an odd, windowless, non white cube environment made me consider it in a very different way. the images themselves became the windows, as they momentarily provided the opportunity to consider that they showed you the environment which lay outside this steel shed you stood in. 

this was wonderful. i had accomplished a concept which i hadn’t even considered attempting until i landed in this unusual gallery space. 

the using of magnetic tape was nerve wracking to say the least. the potential for me to get the ratio of magnetic tape to frame weight was higher than the trees outside my window. but it worked out beautifully. 

i will be showing my work for the edinburgh student arts festival at DOK artist space. a space which is essentially a steel shed with interior walls as steel as its exterior walls. it is not possible to drill nails into these walls in order to hang my photographs and as a result i must come up with an alternative.
