Bootie Reviews
It’s winter in NYC right now. The ground is cold, wet, snowy, icy and most distressing to pet owners, full of deicing salt. This salt is very harmful to pets, can be painful and burn their little paws and if swallowed in large quantities, poisonous. The solution is booties as much as they don’t want to wear them, it’s for your pet’s own good.
We tried 3 booties: Pawz rubber boots, DOGO Pets booties, and Muttlucks.
1. Pawz (~$15) - These are rubber boots that are not only difficult to put on, they fail in other areas as well. While these are good for a quick walk outside in the rain and actually stay on, they do not keep your pet’s paws dry which makes me think the salt can get in. Nor do they protect their little feet from the cold. 1-10 rating, I’d say 5.
2. DOGO Pet booties ($19) - When I first bought these, I thought they were great minus the fact that Cleo and Jack kept biting at the fastening plastic buckle that kept the booties on their feet. In fact, Jack easily destroyed 2 of the buckles so we couldn’t use the boots at all. I do give customer service a 10, they replaced the two destroyed booties immediately at no charge. But I digress. They are relatively easy to put on but they don’t stay on and were soaking wet and became stiff when dry from all the salt that got in. I give the boots a 2 out of 10.
3. Muttlucks (~$45) - I have dubbed these the cadillac of all booties. They kept my kiddos feet warm and dry when we went out in the snow. An added bonus, they were the easiest to put on. They have a suede tracking underneath, a velcro securing strap so they stay on, and are lined on the inside so no water could get in. I’m very happy with these. While they are the most expensive option at an average cost of $45, they’re well worth it. I give them a 9.
So that’s our review on dog booties. We tried just a few but from cheapest to most expensive the most expensive ones won out. My dogs feet are dry, warm, and protected and that’s the most important thing.
