This is an old wip for which I decided to finally make an intro for. If you ever dabbled with mythology, you might notice some names are out of place, but that's because the fake pantheon all picked names from other deities, and even the kingdom being called Eden is part of the "scam".

And gods like Andromeda, Helena and Lysander - they travel and get new names as they go in an organic manner.

I read The Masque of the Red Death for the first time when I was like, 11, and it left a strong impression on me. This reteling is not "I can do it better, I can do it new", but it is me having a conversation with why and how I cannot forget this tale.

Is that the outside world saw them build the walls and all that shit and was like. "okay, you do you, we have better things to do than infringe in your self imposed exile (cause we cannot imagine that someone will figure out how to brainwash a very small country for a very long term of time)"

And then when the first survivors show up, looking crazed and starved, dehydrated too, and start explaining what's going on in there, its utter insanity

Some survivors cry when they are told to speak to other gods because they have no fortune to their name

And people are like. "what do u mean. a god cannot be sustained by money. some still gather and use it to partake even further in society, but their miracles cannot be sustained or fueled by money. what the hell was going on in there."

Then the first other god they meet is like. Waving from across the street, trying to stop a child from swallowing a beetle, instead of up on a pedestal, looking down on everyone.

Death goddess Andromeda, Hell incarnated Darius, Andreas (a prisoner that becomes the first zombie hunter, and the twin hunter gods, Helena and Lysander

Helena and Andreas are love interests to each other

When the borders of the main setting open and the outside gods and people get a glimpse inside, they like, "damn you live like this?"

Because the norm for millenia has been to contact the nearest god the moment you see a zombie, and for millenia millions of gods promptly proceeded to end the zombies before they could become a truly substantial issue,

Thinking about Andreas kissing her scarred and calloused hands with pure devotion

Thinking about Helena basking in the warmth of his affections, and reciprocation the love

I'm still working out the logistics of how it is a country still, but the now zombie plague would never have happened if not for the very same entitlement and attitude that leads to this fate that is completely avoidable outside their borders
