The docking bays and halls of Deep Space Nine are wide enough to move bulky items, like carts and crates. They were built for it, after all. Spaces like doorways and turbolifts are smaller. It’s easy to forget about them when you look at the wide open spaces of the Promenade and the docking bays, but it can inconvenience people to have large items moved into storage manually instead of beaming them there.
It’s not a big deal, but the turbolifts do get a little packed sometimes. If you can have items beamed into storage instead of having your workers take the time to move them, why not?
