this is kinda random but i saw your tags on your reblog and i love that brigadier/doctor hc omg. they dated and i know that for a fact.
honestly it drove me a bit insane how much of a crush Lethbridge-Stewart had on the doctor. gay gay homosexual gay
HI HI HI THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SENDING ME THIS ASK!!! IT ISNT OFTEN MY DB TAGS GET NOTICED
YOU ARE CORRECT THEY DID GO OUT, IN FACT I'D EVEN GO SO FAR AS TO SAY THEY ARE MARRIED!!!!!! (I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT)
AND I AM REALLY GLAD YOU LOVE MY HC ABOUT THEIR SLEEP THING!!! (I ASSUME THAT'S THE ONE YOU ARE REFERRING TO??)
IN LIEU OF MY TYPING IT OUT AGAIN IN MORE DETAIL HERE'S AN EXCERPT FROM THIS FIC IN WHICH I EXPANDED UPON IT:
(for context, the (fifth) doctor is in their bedroom in the tardis, but they can't go back to earth at that moment for Reasons, that the rest of the chapter explains)
Briefly, they consider getting undressed and actually getting into bed, but decide against it: given that they’re not remotely tired, to sleep now, it just wouldn’t be the same without Alistair. Timelords require only a fraction of the amount of sleep Humans require, but they can sleep almost as much, if they choose to – which the Doctor started doing long ago when they discovered how much they enjoy the feeling they get, sleeping beside him: feeling warm and fuzzy, and safe. Ever since then, whatever sleep they do need – which isn’t none, despite assertions that have been made by a number of their friends who have found them in the console room at all sorts of hours – they usually manage to get it whenever they’re with him; meaning they often don’t need to when they’re not. Well, that gives them an even better idea. Getting off the bed and straightening out their clothes, they go over to the sofa and open the universal video link-up, dialling the corresponding link that they and Alistair had set up at home, when their exile was lifted after the first Omega palaver.
THERE ARE A MILLION MORE HEADCANONS AND FICS WHERE ALL THAT CAME FROM!!!! I AM OBSESSED WITH THESE TWO...
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MESSAGE ME IF U WANNA TALK ABOUT THEM MORE
SORRY THIS IS IN ALL CAPS I AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS ASK!!!!
What I like especially about Alistair compared to other cross-regen candidates for soulmates/true loves of the Doctor (Jack, Rose, Clara, the Master) ((although I love all of those too)) is that Alistair isn't cosmically important.
He is to his species on his planet in his country, as the leader of a British government organization. But that's not as important to the massive expanse of the universe. Plenty of other Alistair Gordon Lethbridge Stewarts on different planets have done the exact same thing as species come and go. In the end, he's a spec of dust compared to the infinite vastness of everything else. He's not particularly powerful or important to the universe at all. Just another mortal human man.
I'm sure if fate were slightly different, the Doctor would've let Alistair travel in the TARDIS for a year and then left. That's not what happened though, this man, one they sort of knew briefly, took them in during a traumatic exile. Gave them a job and a home and someone to treat as an equal when everything else felt so distant. Something their supposedly "superior" kind refused to do.
Also, I think Alistair is a good example of a companion where it feels like he's not subtly below the Doctor. The Doctor doesn't have a TARDIS to control where the humans go or any alien planets/alternate times to spout knowledge about. Alistair is a human, but also the Doctor's boss, but also their closest friend. They exchange ideas, they argue, they tease each other. And you forget you're watching a 700 year old vagabond criminal alien with psychic powers. Because around Alistair, it's not what the Doctor wants to be. Alistair isn't special because he's the Brigadier, it's because he's kind and intelligent, strong and loyal.
Whenever the Doctor comes back Alistair is always ready. In a time where their Brigadeir is dead, he haunts the Doctor's mind, every decision they make influenced by him- even when they don't even notice. The two of them are always together. In every incarnation of the Doctor, Alistair is there, literally and/or figuratively. They weren't destined by fate to be together but no stupid amount of fate can tear them apart.
The Doctor is lucky to love Alistair, Alistair is lucky to love the Doctor, the whole universe is a lot better off for all of it.
The Doctor's soulmate is the Brigadier TBH.
What do you mean most versions of the Doctor knew him because they kept coming back? What do you mean the Doctor's first response to being traumatically murdered, having his companions forcibly stolen and exiled is to go start a life with the Brigadier working for him?
What do you mean that even after regaining their TARDIS the Doctor keeps revisiting?
Three is dying and chooses to die at unit with the Brigadier.
Four tries to run away in fear high on regen energy afterwards and he's convinced by Sarah to stay because I quote "the Brigadier needs you!"
All the versions of the Doctor keep either revisiting the Brigadier or constantly talking about how great a man his Alistair was. The return of the Doctor rouses the Brigadier out of retirement when nothing else would. The Brigadier dies, the Doctor immediately befriends and swears to protect his daughter Kate. The Doctor keeps revisiting Kate just as they did with Alistair
Fourteen please please go back in time to for Alistair just for one day see him again and kiss him and tell him his daughter needs therapy

sometimes i yearned for forced immorality docbrig au
i dont think 3 would do that but as brig meets like allll the doctors (atleast 1-10 in various audios/comics/etc) so like some of ten's TLV bullshit or something mmm yummy (for some reason I'd love it to be nine even though I dont think he would. dont know too much about the classic doctors yet but I have heard 7 was a bit of his rocker)
Funfact: the Doctor keeps coming back to the Brigadier because they are soulmates and the Doctor needs to see their favorite human every regeneration or so because if not they get really sick and starts throwing their foodbowl around in their enclosure
#4: write a book with, read a book to, hit with a book. Third Doctor, Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Steward, the Master.
i would hit the master with a book, repeatedly. i suspect you already knew that when you typed this 😆
as for write with or read to... hmm i feel like, either way, three would get distracted... but... hmm...
to be honest, i am just imagining both of them being there; however i think i'll actually write the book with alistair bc i have a headcanon that he draws/paints, so he could illustrate it for me!
and doc is sitting on the other side of the labs making quips about our scientific and/or historical inaccuracies... which means they're listening which means technically i am reading to them... ish...
not sure what the book is about but i'm gonna create two deeply in love characters based on the two of them, and wait and see how long it takes them to notice...
