Adorable Primal Companion
Habitat: Varies; Treasure: None
The elementals are also known as ‘Dang Cute Elementals’ because of their uncanny ability to take the form of incredibly adorable critters. Very few can resist their charming, dopey gaze. Thankfully, these elementals tend to be harmless, and are often friendly, making them perfect familiars.
Some wizards and academics argue over whether they should be classified as elementals or shapechangers given that they can take on more complex forms than just their element. There seems to be no end, or little restrictions on what they can turn into, but it’s always something cute.
There are theories that these creatures have a way to sense, or read the needs of sentient creatures and take on a cute form that would appeal to their soft side.
Elemental critters seem to be drawn to people, and some say represent the desire of nature to form a stronger symbiotic bond with civilization.
Due to the popularity of these creatures as companions and familiars, its not uncommon to find special magic charms that allow adventurers to bond with, and summon them.
These charms emboidy aspects of the critters element, and make its partner more resilient to the type of damage that the elemental is resistant against. The charms are also designed to protect one against the overwhelming charming effects of these critters.
Wondrous Item, Rare (Requires Attunement)
“This glass vial is filled with the purest water obtained from a glacier to the far north. It is always cold to the touch.”
You have Resistance to Cold damage and Advantage on saving throws against being Charmed.
Find Elemental Familiar. You can summon a Water Elemental Critter with this magic item, as if you had cast the Find Familiar spell. Once used, this property cannot be used again until the next dawn.
Elemental critters are not suitable for combat, but they do have various abilities that make them useful to adventurers in a variety of situations. As a few examples, the water elemental can hide a person in plain sight, the fire elemental can serve as a campfire, and the earth elemental can create shapes in stone.
Wonky Weather Wizards (any level). During a local celebration a few magic casters got carried away trying to one-up one another with feats of elemental wonder and accidentally caused a rare weather phenomenon. The village endured 24 hours of constantly changing weather patterns, and it spawned harmless, but mischievous, small elementals of all types. The town is asking for anyone who can to help round up the Elemental Critters and help decide what should be done with them.
