Just getting round to activating features on my hot spot like DMR2YSF. I had a local friend who kept saying he was using the STNY talk group but it wasnโt the same one that Brandmeister listedโฆ figured out it was a cross over room to C4FM (YSF) function. So, got that turned on in the hot spot and now I have two Southern Tier options.
We both got into DMR not knowing it fit the same reason. Both dads are hams and in his case his father goes south when winter hits. In my case I went north and neither my dad or I had HF set up at the time.
Is it VoIP with more steps, yeah but it does work really well and gives you world band radio even for technician class operators or folks with restricted space. I have an old friend, now Silent Key who would have loved this. His senior living center didnโt allow any antennas past an HT. He was active with the local 2m scene and a regular on our weather nets but missed 20m each to Europe.
