The Rise

Around late 2013 or early 2014 (it is unknown when exactly the date of the first post due to deleted history that was not properly archieved), a Tumblr cosplayer using the name Koujackie began gaining attention within the DRAMAtical Murder fandom.

She was in her early 20's around this time, known to live in the Southern California area at the time and be apart of a Bellydancing troup, also recognized under the tumblr usernames: "Jackie-also-Koujackie", "Jackie-not-Koujackie", and "Miss-Jackie-Brown".

At the time, DMMD was one of the most active fandoms on Tumblr. The game’s mix of cyberpunk aesthetics, queer romance, and stylized character design made it especially popular among artists, cosplayers, and roleplayers.

Koujackie’s content stood out quickly.

Rather than traditional cosplay photos alone, she built an entire persona around her interpretations of the characters, especially the character Koujaku, which her username referenced. Her posts included professional photoshoots, roleplay responses, bellydance and fire-spinning photos and videos, memes usually involving herself, WIP projects, cosplay selfies, and in-character content.

She often portrayed genderbent versions of the male characters, presenting them as glamorous, sensual, and confident. This style resonated strongly with parts of the fandom, especially people interested in gender expression and performance were instantly drawn to her. Her costume interpretations were sensual, elegant, and commanding, presenting highly-feminized cosplay interpretations of the characters, blending glamour with emotional confidence in a way that felt both rebellious and magnetic. Her persona extended beyond cosplay into daily interaction, often blurring the line between performance and personal presence.

Because Tumblr at the time encouraged heavy interaction such as reblogs, asks, and direct messaging, creators could develop very close personal relationships with their followers.

Koujackie leaned into that dynamic heavily.

She interacted frequently with fans, responded to messages, and collaborated with other creators. Over time she built a reputation as a charismatic, approachable figure within the community.

One of the most recognizable parts of her online persona was the phrase “Call Me Mama.”

Followers began referring to her as “Mama”, framing her as a kind of affectionate authority figure within the fandom.

For many fans, especially younger ones, the dynamic felt welcoming and supportive. She was often seen encouraging fan creativity and appeared to mentor, collaborate, or uplift smaller and more known creators, becoming a pillar in the community. In result, she would gain a large following on her various other social media accounts, receive fan gifts such as art of her bellydance character designs with her as the main inspiration.

During this period, she became something of a Tumblr micro-celebrity within the DMMD fandom. She became known not only for her visually striking cosplays, but for a charismatic and intimate online presence that made people feel seen.

Escalation

As the situation gained attention, Tumblr’s callout culture began to amplify the conflict.

Blogs dedicated to documenting the controversy appeared, such as the now deactivated KoujackieReceipts and the original Calloutjackiesminions, gathering screenshots and further testimonies from others within the fandom in order to show visable screen shot evidence to prove their case.

On one side, people defended Koujackie strongly, claiming she was being “canceled” and harassed unfairly. Others felt the growing collection of testimonies pointed to a pattern of harmful interpersonal behavior that had gone unchecked due to her popularity and as result, claimed that she was preying on her own fanbase.

As often during Tumblr conflicts of that era, the situation escalated quickly.

Alledged anonymous harassment began appearing across multiple blogs, including threats and hostile messages directed at people involved in the discussion or due to being known by association those connected or for speaking an opinion on the matter. At that point, the situation had moved far beyond a single disagreement about one person's character and the community fractured into opposing sides. Those who swore by Koujackie's innocence, those who demanded accountablity, and those who stood neutral but took a step back as to not get tangled in the apparent drama and bullying.

Koujackie in the end had taken an retreat from Tumblr but continued with other activies with no visible signs of addressing the accusations against her.

Disappearance

In early 2015, fans would find her Tumblr blog gone and deleted, along with other connected accounts on platforms like Instagram and her Facebook fan page.

Around this same time, an image circulated on Tumblr showing her in a hospital setting accompanied by a caption allegedly reading “Look what you made me do.” [Note: CW when clicking link, shows what was posted but through an old account that had saved it].

Some fans interpreted the image as evidence that the harassment and bullying surrounding the controversy had pushed her into a serious mental health crisis, with those who were able to be in communication offering small or vague updates. Claims of Koujackie also having been "doxxed" and alleged threats made to her and her family made it's way around, giving possible context of what contributed to her leaving Tumblr and an perceived spiral of health- mental and physical. Whether this reflected a mental health crisis, a response to criticism, or something else entirely, it would reflect on how difficult online behavior can be to interpret during moments of conflict and in such an era of low to no moderation.

Others felt the post shifted attention away from the concerns being raised by members of the community and claimed the message was attempted to guilt those who have spoken up about it. Multiple sources from now deactivated accounts of once mutuals noted a pattern of interpersonal conflict around Koujackie, including cycles of intense emotional intimacy followed by sudden ghosting, or social pressure to support her despite discomfort. Critics described her as cultivating a "mean girl" persona that masked controlling behavior, often framing critics as jealous or abusive.

Like many moments in Tumblr history, the exact circumstances remain difficult to reconstruct today. The disagreement itself highlighted the recurring tension in online spaces: where concern ends and accountability begins.

By 2016, she had withdrawn herself from the DMMD fandom entirely, leaving behind or deleting accounts to quietly fade and be forgotten about by the majority. Perhaps unfortunately for Koujackie, the Internet is forever.

Aftermath

For many people involved, the disappearance didn’t resolve the situation. Some felt the controversy had been exaggerated by Tumblr’s callout culture and perceived Social Justice Warring. Some fans who initially defended her later stated they felt emotionally manipulated or used. Others felt their concerns had never been addressed.

Over time, the fandom itself moved on. New creators emerged, and the older drama faded from public conversation.

But for those who were present during that period, the “Koujackie era” remained a reference point, a reminder of how quickly influence can grow in online communities and how complicated the relationship between creators and fans can become. How intimacy, influence, and unresolved harm can intersect online, even in close communities.

As older posts disappeared and blogs were deleted, much of the documentation of that time became fragmented as creators would shut down their accounts, move onto different fandom spaces on different platforms with new usernames, or simply to distance themselves from the whole situation entirely. For newer fans, the story often survives only as scattered screenshots, archived posts, and second-hand recollections. An old hobby drama tale that rarely gets brought up but lingers quietly in the minds of those who were once curious of the DRAMAtical Bellydance Cosplayer.

Which is why people occasionally still ask:

“Remember Koujackie?”

The Shift

By late 2014, conversations about her behavior began appearing around Tumblr.

Some of the earliest concerns involved anonymous messages sent to Filipino fans written in broken Tagalog. Several recipients described these messages as racially insensitive or mocking.

Supporters of Koujackie often argued that the messages were jokes or misunderstandings, while others felt they were inappropriate and hurtful. It showed lack of accountability and brushing the incident off, causing some to take a different look at the supposed humor and actions that Koujackie would typically post.

At the same time, debates started around cultural aesthetics used in some of her cosplay, particularly elements associated with Middle Eastern, Indigenous, Black cultural traditions used within bellydance costumes. The debates mostly centered around the character Mink, an Indigenous character with dreads in the initial game.

Koujackie and some fans viewed the costumes as artistic expression and freedom, while others raised concerns about potential cultural insensitivity. These disagreements became part of a broader tension forming within the fandom, as the perceived "I don't care, I'll do what I want" or "Mean girl" attitude started appearing more in passive agressive tagging or posts on Facebook, clearly noticable by the community.

Additional accounts circulated from former collaborators who described uncomfortable interactions in private conversations. Some would note that Koujackie would expect art from artists within the community, make uncomfortable jokes or sexual asks, and when it came to the topic of "Transgender", dispite claiming to be an LGBTQAI+ ally, with claims from members or associates of being purposely misgendered, having their identities dismissed or invalidated during discussions about gender were mentioned. Screenshots from the now inactive callout accounts were later posted and began to show the fandom a different side to the beloved fandom matron.

More serious concerns also appeared from individuals who said they had been minors during their interactions with her. These individuals described public and private messages that felt emotionally intense or boundary-crossing, sometimes involving strong expressions of affection or exclusivity. In tight knit fandom spaces such as the Dmmd space, creators who interact frequently with followers can build strong parasocial relationships (a one-sided sense of closeness). Younger fans especially may feel personally connected to someone who replies to messages, reblogs their art, or gives encouragement despite the age difference. Much of what people later discussed reportedly involved private messages or small group conversations.

Performative or exaggerated online personas were common in Tumblr fandom culture. Nicknames, flirtatious humor, and dramatic roleplay dynamics were often seen as part of the performance of fandom identity. Behaviors that later felt uncomfortable might initially have been interpreted as character roleplay or community culture, especially by younger fans who were still learning boundaries.

Early reactions in fandom spaces are often shaped by admiration, limited information, and community norms. When callout blogs gather information in one place, they can shift how people understand events because patterns become visible that weren’t obvious before.
