Like, there's so many interesting implications there.

Orin does not know your partner (unless it's Minthara lol). So how does she know when Durge answers correctly or incorrectly? Does she assume they know and assume they are right? Does she watch your partner's expression to determine if it was right or not?

Based on what I know about doppelgangers in FR lore (which I'm no expert in, but I've done some diving), they can actually absorb the personality of those they kill and take on the appearance of. This is how they are so convincing. Orin in particular can obviously mimic people who are still alive (i.e., whoever she kidnaps from your party, Durge, etc), which I am unsure how common that is among doppelgangers, but it is notable. But canonically, they can take on the traits of their murdered victims, physical and otherwise. Orin likely cannot take on their personality traits unless she murders them, but she can certainly put on an act based on her observations. (This is particularly potent if she is mimicking Durge and Minthara, since she knows them very well).

Assuming Orin killed Zethino to take her form, does Zethino have some innate empathic ability that Orin obtains while in her form and that's how she knows if you answered correctly?

"Zethino" asks you questions about your partner that are fairly generic. But what if she asked your partner questions about you? What if each question gradually gets more personal, more creepy, more unsettling to the point that Durge knows something is up? By this point (depending on how often you rest) Durge may not yet know Orin is their sister, may not have enough memory to know what Orin/Zethino is asking about.

Even at the end of the love quiz when Orin reveals herself, Durge may not understand how those questions apply to them, or why Orin would ask them. Which just ups the creepy factor. But even if Durge has had their Bhaalspawn reveal dream/vision, this whole encounter would still be very unsettling.

I'm sorry if I haven't kept proper track of all of the WIPs I was tagged in, vacation and then getting stranded with car trouble kinda limited my ability to keep up. But now that I've been home a few days, I was able to start the next chapter of DLMKY! We arrive at the goblin camp!

The development is finally taking hold! xD Tavrin is so stubborn about getting close to people, so of course it took like 110k words for her to get to this point lmao

And pain without purpose is a terrible thing…wouldn’t you agree?” “Pain always has a purpose,” she fires back, the words almost instinctual as they tumble from her tongue. “Even if you can’t see what it is.” The challenge elates him, his grey eyes alight. Just as suddenly, they fall. A great sadness reflects back, as if he’s seen it and couldn’t look away. “Forgive me, but that look in your eyes—something terrible has happened to you.” Her body tenses under his scrutiny, as terrified by the prospect of being seen through as much as the idea of what that terrible thing might be. Normally, she would dismiss this as some ploy to sell her something, but the sincerity in his gaze, in his voice…it rattles her. He's too eager; he has another reason. “My name is Abdirak,” he finally introduces himself with a gentle bow of his head. “I am a priest of the goddess Loviatar—the Maiden of Pain. She teaches us that pain is a most powerful and sacred sensation. And should our pain delight her—should we embrace her gift—she will grant her most sacred of blessings. If you permit it, I could show you firsthand.” Tav squints. She glances over the man, searching for a brand. Unlike Gut, there is no glowing red emblem anywhere on his person. It seems the Absolute is willing to contract out Her work to followers of other gods… Interesting. “You’re offering to beat me so you can offer up my pain to your goddess?” “No, dear one,” he smiles. “I am offering to scourge you, so that you may offer up your pain to my goddess."
