There are many questions you can ask your client about their upcoming party, but the key is to only ask for the details that really matter. You don't want to seem inexperienced asking your client an irrelevant question that has nothing to do with your job. I won't discuss specific questions for complex parties such as Sweet Sixteens, Bar Mitzvahs, Weddings, etc, but I will talk about questions you should ask for parties that involve less details and announcements such as birthdays, holidays, surprise parties, etc. <\p>

The most important aspect of this process is how your going to ask these questions. You can ask your client questions over the phone or in person and write/type everything out, construct a questionnaire form and send it to them in an email, or create a web form on your DJ website that asks for every detail. I personally prefer the website form. My clients can fill their form out in the comfort of their own home, submit their details, correct mistakes/change details, and view their form without needing to contact me to change details for them.<\p>

Now that you know how you can ask detailed questions about your clients event, it's time you learn what detailed questions you'll need to ask. Obviously, your going to need basic information like your clients full name, phone number, email, date of the event, start/end time, address, and directions to the event. Also, you don't want to show up to your clients party in a tuxedo while everyone's wearing tropical flowered shirts, so asking what attire you should wear is crucial to your questionnaire. You can stop there, but you may want to consider asking for some more details.<\p>

I have more questions that I ask for on my web form which I believe can make your clients event more successful. Where am I going to setup my equipment? You'll be surprised at some of the places a client may want you to setup! From my experience, I've learned to ask this question. I tell my clients they must provide a safe place for the DJ to setup the equipment that will protect it from weather, spillage, and anything that can potentially harm the equipment. Also, you must provide a power source within a reasonable distance of the setup area (50ft). <\p>

Just to be safe, you may want to ask who is the guest of honor; Who are we celebrating this party for? Also, what is the theme? There may not be a guest of honor. If the theme is a cancer benefit, Halloween party, or a Christmas party then you'll know everyone's main focus isn't on just one person. It makes a world of a difference when you come prepared to your gig knowing your going to be putting everyone's attention on a specific person, event, or holiday.<\p>

The last few detailed questions I always ask my clients is what's the age group, the number of guests, the genre of music, and what songs they want me to play as well as songs they do not want played. It's good to know the age group because you'll get an idea on what songs to play other than their requested songs. The number of guests isn't very important, but I ask it so I know how many eyes will be watching me perform. The genre of music and the play/do not play list are self explanatory. You need to know what kind of taste your client is looking for so you can provide the right flavor!<\p>
