My name is Ana Aguirre and I am a freshmen at CBU. I am 18 years old, born in Mexico but raised in Memphis. I have 3 sisters, one which is also a student at CBU. I come from a very small high school, where my graduating class was only 92 students. I was grateful to be the Salutatorian for my class. Transitioning from a school where there are 300 students in the entire school to starting college where there are 300 students that are freshmen, can be a bit overwhelming. The things that one is used to changes completely. You no longer have teachers in the hallway telling you to get to class because you are going to be late. You no longer have teachers reminding you to do your homework. It can take time to adjust, but it is a good change. I describe myself as an outgoing, social person but so far I don't have a group of people I can call my friends because, everyone here at CBU come from different places.
College can be stressful and one way I release stress is by exercising. I enjoy exercising outdoors rather than in a gym. However, I use to take Zumba classes and Zumba is one thing that I recommend for everyone. Zumba was the most efficient form of exercising for me because I enjoy dancing. Zumba to me flowed very naturally. You are dancing and having a good time and you don't really notice that you are exercising. I recommend exercising with a friend that enjoys it as much as you do and a person that is motivating. That person for me was my mom. It was one of those things that we bonded from.
Another thing I enjoy is traveling. I was grateful to go to Florida this year for my 18th birthday. Florida was one of the best things that I have ever experience. While in Florida, my family and I went to multiple theme parks and I got the opportunity to go to the beach for the first time in my life. On several occasions, I have been to California, but usually we go to visit family not to tour around, so I had never seen a beach. It was such a beautiful sight to see. I feel in love with Florida. My next vacation hopefully will be New York. I want to go for new years, but only time will tell. Hopefully I will get to visit all 50 states, it is one of the many things only my bucket list.
