Django Reinhardt: Djangofest Northwest

You know the feeling you get when you stumble across a musician you’ve never heard before, and upon listening to their records you realize… you’ve heard their music before? Not only that, but you really like the music and had no idea that this new, mysterious name created it?

It’s kind of a scary feeling. Scary-comforting, if that’s a thing. It’s happened to be so many times, I get excited…

I'm also kinda drunk. bear with me. Just hung out at Matthias and Echae's place (they're roommates; I just played the Djangofest gig with Echae and we went back to her place to drink some beers and celebrate with their other roomies, Aiyun and Evan) (After they all graduated Berklee they came out to SF and roomed together; it's fucking awesome cos they keep telling me all this stuff about what to expect if I end up going there next year)

Ended up talking mad shit about George. Main story: he stole a shit ton of songs from Jimmy and passed them off as his. Jimmy just told me this tonight; he told Echae at their rehearsal Friday. Woahhhh. Also, he's really stingy with paying his musicians, and therefore will try and do the same to us, while trying to control us (i.e. not letting us play with other musicians, like Jimmy. Hence all that drama.)

Also, he's been kinda slimy to Echae and I. Like cracking jokes about having us on his lap and shit to Matthias when they were rehearsing. And since I'm the youngest, it honestly seems like he feels as though I'm wrapped around his little finger; like I'm the naive one that he can control the easiest. Mehhh.

Soooo. Shopping for gig formal wear tomorrow with the four of em. We're gonna post pics to facebook and try and intimidate George via the fact that we're bonding to actually pay us decent money for gigs from now on. Power to the people xD

And then Matthias started playing I Can't Give You Anything But Love, and it's one of the tunes that was pretty popular at Djangofest, and I only know the first couple of lines so I sang and then kind of half-assed scatted the rest. And Evan scatted another chorus, only jokingly - like, he sounded half like Louis Armstrong, and half like he was clinically insane - and, man, I miss music humor. Sheeeeit.

Also was able to actually hold a decent conversation about music theory. It's second nature; it's not like it's a big thing - like "oh, that's a minor four! I only brought up this topic to let you know that I know what a minor four is! Hey guys, let's all give ourselves a big pat on the back." And Hiromi Uehara! These dudes know Hiromi!!!!! Holy shit!!!!
