Laidback Luke's five golden rules for DJs
Nothing beats advice from an experienced DJ, for they are the ones that are proof that it can be done for a living. Many of us aren’t willing to risk the idea that DJing will somehow go out of style when we are in our 40’s, so we give it up (at least professionally). Those who are lucky enough to make a career out of it are keen on several ideas that make the experience more enjoyable and more successful. A DJ should be able to know what they gear does, and they should be able to use everything on it, or at least know how it works. You never know when that feature might be useful. As far as song selection, you have to find a middle ground between what the crowd wants and what you want. If you go 100 percent to either side, the crowd might hate you and you might hate yourself in the process. The DJs job is always to have music, and new music at that; therefore it makes sense that they need to constantly listen to new and old music. How can you add to your music vocab if you aren’t listening to new things. http://www.inthemix.com.au/features/57322/Laidback_Lukes_five_golden_rules_for_DJs
