This is the first time that I posted an entry concerning serious issues. And I want to leave an imprint to anyone who cares about our civilization's future here on earth.
More and more people are opening their eyes to the reality of "Global Warming" and its life threatening effects to our eco-system. Are we doing anything about it? Seeing the situation as it is in our country, the Philippines, people seem to have no care at all. Majority of Filipinos disregard this issue because they presume that this does not affect them, especially the high and middle class. People drift their attention to material possessions. They avert their time, money and efforts into buying a new mobile phone, when in fact they have a phone right in their pockets that works just as fine. They're blinded by fads. They need to have the coolest shirt, the hippest pants, the latest shoes, the fanciest accessories. Despite the media's attempts to increase awareness people have remained null with their actions.
Global Warming is an issue that covers us all, so as they say and they said it right. Primarily, Global Warming is caused by increased levels of greenhouse gases (mostly carbon) trapped in the atmosphere. Now the 2 Polar Regions, the Artic and Antarctica, act as mirrors deflecting radiation and heat from the sun by bouncing it back into outer space. But because of excessive greenhouse gases trapped in our atmosphere a big percentage of heat from the sun isn't bounced back to space, resulting into increased temperature rates worldwide in short Global Warming. If this continues it will only take a few years for the Ice Caps to completely melt affecting sea levels, climate changes and eco-life. Now we don’t want that to happen, do we?
Now is our time to act. The big question is: Are you ready to change the way you live? We can help save our planet by decreasing carbon emissions. The simple things we do affect all of us sooner or later. We can lessen carbon emissions by:
· Unplugging appliances when not in use.
· Using public transportation and/or walking if possible.
· Throwing trash on waste bins.
· Supporting local products (This gives less demand to imports, thus saving energy from shipping products.)
If our government ignores the fact that this is a problem we must act upon, then we Students have to act with or without the government's help. In our little way we can make this world a better place to live in, for us, our future and our lives. Are you ready to change the way you live? I am!
