I appear to have gotten my first gig to perform on the modular synth, and I'm kind of stressing about it — though it's possibly the most forgiving venue possible for what I'm doing.
See, the city is having what they call the "Bright Parade", an evening parade downtown; the theme is meant to be lights and illuminated sculpture, with a focus on human- and electric-powered transportation. (I'm expecting lots of LED-spangled ebikes.) The makerspace I hang out at figured that it really sounds like we should have something in it to show off the kind of stuff we make — and I was invited to include my synth, both to add sound to the experience and as an example of said stuff.
So I've been going around in my head trying to come up with a "set" that I could play on the thing. The forgiving part is that this is, after all, a parade, so the basic brief is to sound interesting for the couple of minutes, max, it takes to go past any given observer. I think I can handle that.
(I'm thinking of setting up some kind of self-playing bit by running the VCOs off Marbles and synching that to run drum patterns — Euclidean or similar — from the Ornament and Crime to play the Toy Drum. Lots of unknowns, but the parade isn't for another month, so...)
