Producers and DJs, as well as a host of other musicians, are keeping their eyes peeled for the next big controller to be released. The question is, “Who will be the ones to create it?” Many of us already understand that the big companies are fiercely looking for the next big controller solution that will revolutionize the way we interact with computers – but maybe it will come down to a kid tinkering around with an electronics kit. Kickstarter campaigns have already proven that an idea can come to life with the support of the internet, rather than a sole source or money, so could this actually work? There is one company who wants to help push this idea, and they are known as Livid Instruments. Basically, creating hardware and software was a job left up to those with the understanding and knowledge to make it happen. It wasn’t the DJs who were breaking down the technical details, but the engineers and operators who were making it happen. By giving the average DJ the tools to design their own DIY controller, they have eliminated the knowledge barrier and have made it possible for an idea to come to life. http://djworx.com/share-your-diy-projects-to-win-a-livid-brain-jnr/
One Button, One Knob, USB: Crazy-Simple DIY Teensy Project
Midi controllers are so common that the prices for them have done nothing but drop. We can readily afford any type of USB midi controller on the market, and they come in all shapes and forms. The Behringer line of modular controllers are a great example of one company iterating the process until they have found a design that they like. But even with so much variety produced by these major manufacturers, there is something left to be had here. No controller is perfect, by any means. A controller could be made of diamond and platinum and there would still be a couple in the crowd complaining that it isn’t idea or strong enough to handle button presses. Instead of complaining, why not just make you own? It seems daunting; the idea of creating an electronic device from scratch, but you aren’t doing it alone. There are software developers and programmers out there who have been picking their own brains for long enough that the basic software coding has already been taken care of. Really, it just comes down to your skills with a soldiering iron and few bits of testing gear here and there. Just make one yourself and be done with it. http://createdigitalmusic.com/2013/05/one-button-one-knob-usb-crazy-simple-diy-arduino-project-and-some-music/
