caves are sick. I want to visit more caves.
Went to Dixie Caverns in Salem Virginia today. Really cool walk up and down through the cave. I believe the highest point was 80 feet above where we started. The cave was originally discovered because some local boys dog named Dixie chased an animal into an opening at the top of the cave. They had to get permission and help from the land owner to retrieve their dog. Pretty sure they got her back. The caves will have been open for tours for 100 years next year. Really cool place to check out. Reasonable admission at $18 an adult. They also have a penny squasher and there are bats in the cave to see.

there was a formation called the "pipe organ" or something but it looked lame. not pictured.
I liked this weird cave cathedral looking thing way more.

it's not supposed to be here though. moss spores are accidentally carried from the surface to the cave by people and electric lights allowed those spores to grow.
the lights are turned off when no one is in the cave to limit the moss from spreading. moss is destructive when it grows in places it doesn't naturally occur because it slowly breaks down the rocks beneath it.
all standing the water in the caverns was super still. I forget the name of this pool but everything in the bottom half of the second photo is a reflection.
