The First Signs of Fall
Last night I decided to sleep with my windows open, and this morning I was thrilled to wake up to crisp, cool air flowing through the house. It also got me excited for fall.. boots, long sweaters, football, and of course EVERYTHING PUMPKIN. So I feel it necessary to do a pumpkin beer review. I'm going to start off with one of my favorites
Beer: Pumpking, Southern Tier Brewing Company, 8.6% ABV
This beer tastes like pumpkin pie, hands down. It's a little sweet, which is a turn off, but you honestly feel like you are drinking a pumpkin pie. I have a handful of friends who stay away from "craft beers" and stick to their bud lights and blue moons, however they even love this. If you can find it on tap, ORDER IT. It's delicious in the bottle but I've had it on tap once and almost died and went to heaven. Anyways, just try it. It's fall so it's time.
In other news, a few "markets" have popped up on my radar that I think would be worth checking out in the DMV area.
District Flea: new flea market in DC that is on 9th and Florida Ave NW. Apparently its from the people who started the Brooklyn Flea in NYC (which I've never been to) but there was a lot of hype about this starting up in DC. It's from 10AM - 5PM every Saturday until October 19th. I'm hoping to make it there before the end of September though
Union Market, DC: I read about this place a few months ago and still have not been able to make it there (probably because I just love the Eastern Market). Anyways, its located on 5th St NE but the vendors there sound amazing! Empandads, oysters, a butcher, cupcakes, a korean taco place?! Also, there's a farmers market there on the weekends. Hopefully I'll be checking this place out soon as well.
Sadly, the end of summer means the end of outdoor market season. Hopefully it doesn't get too chilly too fast so I can enjoy them longer!
U STREET HAPPENINGS: What's Good In Our 'Hood
The Good Kind Of Flea Finally Arrives!
In a couple of weeks from now you will be able to attend the District Flea market (brought to us by the Brooklyn Flea market founders, Jonathan Butler and Eric Demby) located on 945 Florida Avenue NW, near our very own 9:30 Club! The District Flea market will run for six Saturdays starting on September 14th. The market will feature antique furniture, curated jewelry, fresh foods, vintage clothing, art, and crafts by artisans from in and around D.C., New York, Philly, and Baltimore. Some of the vendors from DC include U Street’s vinyl and vintage clothing shop Joint Custody, Woodley Park’s consignment store Via Gypset, handmade accessories from Ciao Nina that have been featured in the CW show Gossip Girl and are sold in DC boutiques, plus more fantastic local vendors! We can’t think of a better way to start the weekend!
If you’re interested in becoming a vendor, apply here!
