Distractions || Luna
Luke: -Luke a sad lawyer at the moment-
Luke: -He misses Pete-
Tolvin: *Tolvin lightly slaps his face. Lightly!
Luke: -frown- "Why."
Tolvin: "Distraction." *back to his newspaper
Luke: "I give your distraction a 3/10."
Tolvin: "I'm not kissing you."
Luke: "That's historically proven to be the best distraction."
Tolvin: "I'd say public beheadings work best."
Luke: -mighty frown-
Tolvin: "Could go get laid."
Luke: "I don't wanna." -slumps-
Tolvin: "What is that?" he laughed.
Luke: "Don't wanna sit like a person."
Tolvin: "You're grumbling like a spoiled child."
Luke: "I've been acting more mature than I feel for weeks. I'm tired."
Tolvin: "Well then throw a tantrum."
Luke: "I'm too classy for a tantrum."
Tolvin: "Ha." *Flips page.
Luke: -more frown-
Tolvin: "Going home soon."
Luke: -more slumps-
Tolvin: *a glance was given
Tolvin: "Might come back."
Luke: -brightens just a wee-
Tolvin: "Daughter's birthday. I never miss it."
Luke: He smiled. "Good. I'm sure she'll be happy to see you."
Tolvin: "Mhm. Becoming a teenager though. Oh boy." He was not enthused at all.
Luke: "Teenagers aren't that bad. It's only a few who go crazy."
Tolvin: Now it was his turn to frown.
Luke: "She'll be fine, don't worry too much about it. Besides you already have experience with a teenage girl."
Tolvin: "You?"
Tolvin: Mighty grin.
Luke: Cue bitch face. "Very funny. I meant Logan."
Tolvin: That bitch face wasn't so terrible to look at. Dare he think... cute. "Yeah, right. Logan. She's always been mature, though."
Luke: "Maybe your daughter will be too. Have to think positive."
Tolvin: "Well, I'm not gonna guess from thousands of miles away."
Luke: "Everything'll be fine, you'll see." He nodded sagely. "What are you getting her?"
Tolvin: "What am I getting her?"
Luke: "For her birthday."
Tolvin: "Haven't thought of anything. Figured I'd get something along the way."
Luke: "What does she like to do?"
Tolvin: He sighed. He hated that question. "Write?" That was when she was eleven. "Hiking?" But he hadn't heard her mention that in months. "Swimming." Yes, that was recent.
Luke: "Take her snorkeling."
Tolvin: "I'll keep that in mind, if her mother allows it."
Luke: Luke nodded. "It'd be great if she did. Get to spend a day with her old man, play in the ocean, see cool fish. And don't forget the card."
Tolvin: "Right." Her mother seemed hell bent on keeping adventure at arm's length. He knew why. Painfully obvious.
Luke: "And get her mom some flowers. Never hurts to grease the wheels."
Tolvin: "I don't - I don't know about that. Besides, wouldn't that make you jealous?"
Luke: "Got no reason to be, she's your kid's mom. She should get some tulips once in a while."
Tolvin: "I had sex with someone that isn't you and had two children. That does nothing to you?"
Luke: "This happened more than a decade before you met me. I'm not one of those guys that thinks someone else's life started when they met me. We've all got a history."
Tolvin: Surprise. Two surprises. "Huh." He was impressed by one, and unsure what to think of the other. He kept both to himself as he looked away. Why was he even playing this game? The same as that kiss... it wasn't necessary.
Luke: Luke smiled. "You really think I'm just a pretty face, don't you?"
Tolvin: "Excuse me?"
Luke: "You always seem surprised when I say something thoughtful and profound."
Tolvin: "It's... just..." He sighed, frustrated. "Nothing."
Luke: Luke wasn't going to push it. Not today at least.
"Want a drink?"
Tolvin: "Yeah, sure." And that bell went off in his head again. That reminder of their last meeting, of his curse. He shook his head. "Wait, no. I should... probably go."
Luke: He blinked. "Was it something I said?"
Tolvin: Tolvin just stared at his shorter counterpart and sighed again. He was a living breathing temptation. A downright sin. Didn't Luke remember his confession? He was cursed. He couldn't; he believed in the curse too much.
Luke: Luke would probably remember later, but right now he was just confused. And if he was honest with himself, a little sad and disappointed.
"O...kay. Well. Looks like the sad guy is gonna have to get drunk alone."
Tolvin: "I'm not sad. You're sad for whatever obsession it is you have for me."
Luke: "Yes, Dana, I am the sad guy I was referring to and despite what you may believe, I did not arrive at that state because of you. I'm going through a personal crisis."
Tolvin: "I heard about your father," he said, eyes falling to the floor, arms crossed in subconscious defense.
Luke: "My father's the tip of the iceberg."
Tolvin: "So don't make it worse."
Luke: "I am not the one making it worse. I'm the one running around trying to make it better and doing that constantly for the past few weeks has drained me so not only am I sad, I'm tired."
Tolvin: "So go to sleep."
Luke: "I'm not physically tired at the moment. I'm mentally tired. Emotionally tired."
Tolvin: Cursed. You're cursed. The little voice was ignored as he leaned down, nose to nose, just shy...
"Go home, get mostly naked, lay down."
Luke: Luke sighed softly, letting his forehead rest against Dana's. "I tried."
Tolvin: "What's stopping you?"
Luke: "It's too quiet without my brother."
Tolvin: "So turn on the TV, or the radio. Give yourself noise."
Luke: "Not the same." He knew he sounded like a child, but he couldn't help it. Being the mature, steady one--being Pete--was hard.
Tolvin: Tolvin thought the same, smiling as he whispered the word, lips inches from the man he not-so-secretly desired. "Don't resort to the bottle-o to solve your problem."
Luke: A tiny smile tugged at Luke's lips. "But it tastes really good on the rocks with salt."
Tolvin: "Don't," he whispered again. He was fidgeting; one could call it a nuzzle.
Luke: Luke was definitely interpreting it that way. "Okay," he whispered back.
Tolvin: "Now, you walk that way, and I'll walk this way, and we'll both go home and get some rest. Yeah? Maybe I'll watch Family Guy, and you happen to watch the same episode."
Luke: Luke nodded, moved by Dana's subtle attempt at making him feel better.
"Maybe I will. I like Family Guy."
Tolvin: "Alright then." This was as close as he was going to get to kissing this man. If Luke wanted to close the gap, it would have to be on his own will. A few seconds of hesitation, and he was sitting up.
Luke: Much as Luke wanted to do just that, he wanted Dana to be the one to initiate--just once--even more.
So he let Dana pull away, trying not to sigh in disappointment.
"Guess I'm going home."
Tolvin: "If I hear you've gone to the bottle-o, I'll be disappointed in you. Go home, Luke."
Luke: "All right. Just know that the next time you want to self-medicate, I'll be reminding you of this conversation."
Tolvin: "You're a lawyer. I know better than to show you my dirty laundry."
Luke: "I don't use people's shit against them outside court."
Tolvin: "Never going to use my being a hunter against me?"
Luke: "Not unless someone sues you and I represent the plaintiff."
Tolvin: "You don't love me," he smirked.
Luke: "Don't worry, doll. Court takes place during the day. Those vampires are SOL and JWF."
Tolvin: "What and what?"
Luke: "Shit out of luck and jolly well fucked."
Tolvin: "You don't get to make fun of my Australian slang."
Luke: Luke laughed. "I still am."
Tolvin: "Are you stalling?"
Luke: "I was about to leave when you brought up my lawyer-ness."
Tolvin: "Maybe we're both stalling..." To which he sighed, forced himself to turn away and start walking.
Luke: If Dana was going to sigh, then Luke was going to sigh too. Though he'd bet they were sighing for very different reasons.
Oh, well. Apparently he was going home.
