Dispatching future heroes tiny snippet (of p.2)
Robert glances at Leo, concern etched on his face, then he asks, “Is this too much?”
Leo scoffs, his eyes drifting to another dispatcher pass by the cubicle with their stare way too obvious for even Robert to ignore. But he plays it off, ignoring it to respond, “Please, kidnapping? Try alien possession on your brother.”
Robert frowns, “That’s not something to brag about–actually, don’t tell me more. We’ll talk about it later. Since you’re concerningly used to high-stress situations, what do you think we should do?”
Leo frowns, “Isn’t there a thing on shows where you triangulate the location of the call?”
Robert snaps and points at Leo, “Good job.”
Immediately, he starts clicking things on the screen, even going so far as to hack into some kind of software that makes a small pin on the map that travels down the streets at an alarming speed. And following close behind are Blue Blur’s, Big Blue’s and Champ’s pins.
“Hey, I’ve sent you three the location of our subscriber’s phone. Big Blue, I need you to cut them off with Champ. Blue Blur, can you–,” Robert orders, but Blue Blur interrupts.
“Yeah, we got it. Why don’t you send the kiddos out on a mission? Keep yourself busy, hm? We got this, bud.”
“Blue Blur, I need you to listen to me–.”
“Don’t overstep Robbie. I’ve got this.”
Suddenly, Blue Blur’s pin stops moving.
Robert curses under his breath and mumbles, “It’s like deja vu…”
But surprisingly, Big Blue’s and Champ’s pins appear a few blocks down from the rapidly travelling subscriber pin. They’ve literally triangulated the subscriber, with the exception of Blue Blur’s pin that stopped moving.
Leo can’t help but joke, “Looks like they want to impress you?”
Robert leans back with his hand running through his hair, “Ha ha. Would be nice if that were the case.” Then he presses his mic closer to ask, “Blue Traveler, finished resting?”
“Yeah, what’s up,” the hero in question, responds casually. There’s the sound of slurping through a straw that obnoxiously makes itself known after he responds.
“I’m gonna need you on standby in case the others fuck this up,” Robert answers then glances at Leo to apologize, “Sorry for the curse.”
But to both Leo’s and Robert’s surprise, Blue Traveler denies the order.
“Nah, they’ve got it. You heard Blur. He’s got it.”
Robert groans aloud, “That’s not the point. You need some kind of contingency plan.”
“And I’m telling you, they’ve got. It. I guarantee they’ve thought of all the contingency plans you could think of, and then some.”
“Someone’s life is on the line–.”
“No one understands that better than Blur.”
