Answered before, but I’ll just name another one.

I wish I had put some serious effort into learning Japanese when I was younger. The grammar really just scared me off, and I just didn’t want to deal with the struggle. But now that I’m learning Norwegian, I can see once you learn the grammar rules and understand it, learning another language isn’t so bad. Maybe when I have time I’ll seriously try again, but there’s the whole writing/reading aspect that’s extra hard since it’s not phonetically based…

oh god, i have no idea. when i was a teenager there were several characters i would have immediately said, but add ten years and all i have for you is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ laguna, maybe? or squall.

17. Which game was the saddest? 

my gut instinct is ffx, but the game as a whole isn’t sad, it’s more that death is a pervasive theme – and death causes a lot of complex emotions.

so i think i have to go with type-0. it’s another game filled with death, but it’s tied in with loss, and what’s left behind when you lose people in a world where you can’t remember the dead. the entire last chapter was a clusterfuck that made literally no sense, but i still bawled my eyes out at the ending. overall it’s a very bleak game.

43. What is your favorite weapon? 

oh my god there’s no way i can answer this………………………

you know what, i’m gonna pick some highlights from various games. skipping I-V because it’s been 10 years since i played any of them.

vi: edgar’s chainsaw, because seriously, what the fuck is ff6 even on. i love all of edgar’s tools. why does he have these.

vii: cid’s ultimate spear, venus gospel. awesome name and great design. i rarely use it since it has zero ap growth, but whenever i can use it, damn. i love all of ff7′s weapons, as it happens – i’ve spent more time with them than any other game. i love how they all have unique designs, even the joke ones like the nail bat.

viii: squall’s lion heart. i mean, come on, it looks awesome, and gunblades are cool as shit. ff8′s weapon system is wildly different than the other games, but i really like it. sure, i never figured out how to upgrade weapons on my first few playthroughs (where do i find screws?) but it’s innovative and really neat.

ix: tie between quina’s silver fork and steiner’s excalibur ii. the fork because everything about quina is amazing all the way through their weapons, and the sword because what the fuck, why the hell is it even in the game. what the fuck.

x: tie between yuna’s staff and lulu’s dolls. yuna’s basic staff is my favorite – it’s simple, but it’s beautiful. seriously, everything about her design is perfect in my eyes. as for lulu: i just can’t get over it. i didn’t even know the dolls ran out until i hit attack by accident like 15 hours into the game. everything about them is great.

xii: god i could pick like half the weapons in the game. i got every single weapon save the rng ones in my tza playthrough. i’m gonna say the tournesol because it took forever to make but was genuinely worth it when all was said and done.

xiii: lightning’s hauteclaire, which actually isn’t that good, but it’s my favorite name of any weapon, and it has a great color scheme.

xiii-2: serah’s default bowblade, starseeker. the whole concept of a bowblade is awesome, even if mog turning into it is pretty silly. also an honorable mention to lightning’s gunblade, overture.

lr: I COULD PICK SO MANY. god this game had so many awesome weapons. my favorite aesthetically is lightning’s default sword, crimson blitz, but in terms of actually using them, my favorites are the flesh render (drop from the last reaver), caius’s sword (chaos’s revenge), basically every rapier… man i miss this game.

xv: > implying i care about ff15. idk, let’s go with the star of the rogue since i used it to win the game.

type-0: SEVEN’S WHIPBLADE, HOLY SHIT. type-0 might have been a hot mess but THAT WEAPON WAS SO FUCKING AWESOME. the concept was AMAZING and it was SO MUCH FUN to use.

tactics advance: the cinquedea, which teaches steal: ability. i don’t think i really used it until my most recent playthough, but holy shit, most broken thing ever. i fucking love it. one move and you suddenly know abilities that would otherwise take hours of gameplay. fuckin’ amazing.

…that was so much more tl;dr than i expected. i guess i have a lot to say about weapons. in my defense, you do sort of use them a lot in an rpg. anyway, rest of questions below the cut.

You can read up on some of the worldbuilding on the second floor in the library! It won’t tell you “btw this is covered in Trails in the Sky”, but it is a neat introduction nevertheless (imo).

I checked that out not long after I made my first impressions post! It does make for a nice little primer on the world of Trails. :D

I knew SC was available digitally on the Vita, but it's about two gigs on there, isn't it? Unfortunately, I don't have the space for it on there; as it is, I need to clear space on it in order to get NDRV3's Japanese voicetrack. Downloading the game on PSP is even more out of the question... I seem to remember that doing a data install for Persona 2 IS took up more space than my entire memory card, which sucked because loading times for that game are looooong without it. >>; Steam it'll have to be for Sky SC, then!

2. Is there a ship you didn’t like at first but ultimately started shipping?

Tenchi/Ryouko (Tenchi Muyo) Not sure why but when I was young I really liked Aeka. But looking back Ryouko is my fav.

4. Name a popular ship you don’t get the appeal of.

Athrun/Cagalli (Gundam SEED) Sorry this is like the only ship I’m really against, I just don’t see any chemistry between them….

9. What ship represents the kind of relationship you’d love to have?

John/Dido (Belle, 2013 movie) honestly this film is so personal for me? It hits all the things I really value, like mutual respect and understanding, and the willingness to discuss issues and what they mean for us. A lot of the things John says to Dido are really the kind of things I wish someone would tell me.

14. Is there a ship you feel gets undeserved hate in fandom?

Athrun/Meyrin (Gundam SEED Destiny) Ok this was hard??? I don’t actually follow a lot of ship hate, but I feel like Meyrin represents so many us, the fangirls who’ve admired from afar, but never dared to actually talk to the famous people we’ve crushed and gushed over. But yeah since this “gets in the way” of AsuCaga, I used to see so much flaming when GSD was still fresh.

16. Is there a ship that made you realise something about yourself?

Theon/Robb (ASOIAF) Yeah this really hit all the right emotional buttons for me, but then I also realized I seem to go for tragedy ships a lot….

17. Is there a type of ship you always go for?

fgfgdgddf ^^^^ see above??? 👀 omg I apparently really have it out for the tragedy ships. It’s almost a miracle when I go for a happy ship. Something about the struggles of a ship doomed for failure that really gets me? I guess the more it has to over come, the more appealing it is for me. It’s the chase, not the prize at the end, that does it for me.

As for a more specific example - it’s more divisive than outright unpopular, but I still have no idea why Chika/Riko attracts such intense hatred. It’s so harmless? It’s literally just two girls learning about each other and how to communicate and supporting each other’s dreams? What is there even to be so strongly against???

16. Is there a ship that made you realise something about yourself?Hm. It’s hard to say if it made me realize this about myself, or if it just happened to be what I was shipping at the time when I was finally ready to come to terms with it. But Daughter/January played a big part in my figuring out some of my brain problems, and also that yeah, kink is actually something important to me and even if I’m aro-ace, I still want a relationship with someone that would let me explore it.

...I know that sounds like kind of a silly realization, but. boy was it hard to reach.19. Is there a ship the fandom has ruined for you?Ohhh yeah. If I’m already heavily invested in a ship, a bad fandom can’t even dent my interest, but when I’m more casually interested in it? There’s like a dozen different ways they can lose me.

Sometimes it’s just a matter of a ship getting popular in a way that runs counter to what I enjoyed about it (like Sora/Shun). Sometimes I like two ships the fandom pits against each other, which leads to the more popular ship posting hate in the other’s tag and turning me off to it completely (like Chika/You). And sometimes I find fic tagged for one of my ships, but when I read it, the author spends the whole time pointing out how awful that ship is and why this other one is so much better (like Karkat<>Kanaya). I may have a multi-shipping heart, but it’s a very fickle one. XD
