          klaus doesn’t quite understand how being a ‘famous ac-tor,’ which count olaf is not, makes one qualified to work a compass.  “yes, i know how a mop works.”  klaus’s tone is, most certainly ‘insolent,’ though it is quite unlikely that count olaf knows what ‘insolent’ actually means – rather like his understanding of the word ‘standoffish,’ that shall be later explored in this account.  “i’ve used one several times today, as a matter of fact.”  though the mop is broken, and even violet’s tinkering could not quite render the tool functional;  additionally, the likelihood of count olaf’s floors ever being clean again is slim, no matter how many times he orders the baudelaires to mop them.

          what  if  violet  was  in  this  situation  ,     what  would  she  do ?     he  stills  himself  ,     lips  drawing  into  a  thin  line  and  hands  balling  into  fists  at  his  side.     violet  would  be  brave  ,     she  would  face  the  situation  head  on  and  without  flinching.     she  would  protect  them.     ❝    you  know  you  cannot  kill  us  ,     because  the  fortune  is  unattainable  until  violet  comes  of  age  ,     the  fortune  will  not  go  to  anyone  ,     including  you.    ❞
