Sam Vimes, as a concept, is older than I am. Guards! Guards! Came out in 1989. What the fuck.
Oh Sybil...
I will try to keep an open mind about The Watch, but I'm not liking what I'm seeing.
Specifically Sybil, like most people (I'm also not happy about the casting of Carcer, but since I'm Very White I feel unqualified to speak on it)
Sybil is a force of nature and she's always been my favorite. I mean how can you not like a character that was once described as a 'glittering siege engine'?
The vigitalism and the casting are a problem on multiple levels, but it mostly bothers me because they're taking away so much that made her great.
Sybil is incredibly kind, she knows Everyone, she has a back bone of steel and she can talk her way into and out of various situations.
She is a political genius and that's her Actual Superpower.
She's not necessarily ambitious, but she could rule the world if she wanted to.
I know that the adaption was never going to be one-on-one, but if you have to change her role, make her an honest to goodness political player. She could be the One Noble that actually has bright ideas.
It would be a great source of conflict for Vimes.
It could set up great political storylines that were always a big part of the books.
IMAGINE THE SHENANIGANS!
You don't have to have her running around being all crimeycrimes for her character to interact with the Watch.
If you want a vigilante character, make a new one. Fuck, if you wanted to change Carcer's storyline so bad, make him the vigilante!
My wish for the ending of s8
Is that Bran, Arya and Sansa just get to eat chocolate (or lemon cakes) in a great big room, where the world is a different place.
Episode 3: It's just a lot
Okay, so I made a recap think type post, but I didn't like it so I took it down.
I don't think I have any interesting things to say about this episode.
Or maybe too many.
Maybe it's just this:
All of these people who died, they did come together for a single purpose. They all did it together.
Were the dragons kind of useless?
I will stand by it and say yes.
But all of these people were incredibly brave and did their duty when it counted. Including Sansa and Daenerys.
Mistakes were made, there were miscalculations and dumb decisions (on the writer's side mostly) But Westeros survived.
Now we're going back to our regularly scheduled petty politicking in a brave new world that looks suspiciously like the old one.
P.S. For some reason that silly Carrot Ironfounderson speech keeps going through my head.
"If we succeed no one will remember! And if we fail, no one will forget!"

According to my calculations, if I lived on the Discworld I would be 26 years old and that's pretty neat.
I was thinking for a second about the name “Carrot” and the carrot and stick metaphor that so often gets twisted around Vetinari and I was like, hm, what does Angua’s name mean? because she’s so loyal to Carrot and she likens herself to his dog in the way that Vimes likens himself to being Vetinari’s dog
and Angua’s name does not have a meaning. but Angus means “one choice”
So I like the thought of Vetinari mentoring Carrot, and Carrot taking over the watch. Because you either go with Carrot's way of things, or you get mauled by a werewolf.
