So … my beautiful wife was surprised when she was shown a plant that we get ‘sponges’ from here in Zimbabwe .. she hasn’t seen this before .. just like she hasn’t seen ‘many other things in Zimbabwe’ .. she is very happy and willing to learn, so happy in fact she even got a ‘Shona companion’ (Mambo Press 1972 - third edition) as she adapts to what is now ‘home’. Yes Zimbabwe is chaotic, this is the longest time I’ve spent in the country in one go since 2009 and I guess it had to be the crafty German that I married that brought me back to this rather ‘perfect mess’.. one of a few messes in which plenty of opportunities lie. Zimbabwe deserves better, the people of Zimbabwe deserve better.. don’t ever expect visitors to clean your house for you .. only we can do this ourselves, for ourselves & future generations.
