“I’m originally from Brazil. I was adopted from an orphanage when I was seven so I don’t know my parents. Then I moved to Luxembourg for like three years and then moved to England for about ten years, then went to Australia for about ten years. How old am I? I don’t know. Where do I live? I don’t know. But I’m not owned by any one country and I never vote. 

I came from a world where I had nothing. There was a room with a box full of shoes if you needed shoes but who needs shoes? If someone came to adopt you, you were meant to wear shoes but nobody told me they were meant to match, if they fit they fit. I was given a birthday present and I didn’t understand what it was. They unwrapped it for me and I still didn’t understand what it was. I looked at them , they looked at me and they said, ‘This is yours’. I didn’t understand what a possession was. You know John Legend’s song ‘imagine a world with no possessions, nothing to kill or die for’. I had no possessions and I was the happiest street kid in the whole world. I roamed the streets, had enough food, with kids around me, I met people, I got up and would say ‘what do I want to do today?’ and I did it. After my adoption I went to a boarding school and had very troubling years. I’d wake up and say ‘what shall I wear?!’ 

Working on the streets now trying to make people smile energises me. Disco Bunny came about from my good friend Sue Seven who once called me that. I didn’t do it for the last two days as I was trying to sort out admin stuff, I’m becoming a bit of a global star as my video went viral with 40 million views in 3 or 4 weeks. I obviously had a bit of a freak out as it’s absolutely spiralling out of control but what opened me up were all the people internationally contacting me saying ‘I love what you do, keep doing it.’ it was that that forced me to go out and continue it.

People inspire me. I once heard a quote ‘The greatest explorer is the explorer of the human emotion’. When I explore other people I explore the depths of my emotions. I’ve had incidences where I’ve cried openly on the street. People just interacting with each other, not caring of stupid things in life like race, gender, orientation, religion and that is - a smile. It communicates”
