🎙[new podcast] Forward Flash Episode 016: Michael, I’m not addicted to drugs. I’m addicted to glamour. | Party Monster (2003) 🍩 [link in bio] Money. Success. Fame. Glamour. We're back in the NY club scene about a decade later with the Party Monster story. While we mostly stay on the film track we get detailed about the many documentaries about the true story that more than inspired this tale. There are so many fashion standouts that could be it's own episode. The portrayal of Michael Alig and James St. James by Macaulay Culkin and Seth Green deserves all the awards. Me, @charleshaslam, and @agentmikey007 talk this INSANE story, the uncomfortable accuracies, and question just how the fuck this all happened. Off-topic rants include: TV shows we're obsessing on, newish Brokeback Mountain news, and tales about Mikey's dog Boss. "Now it's all about photo placement. So if you're in a group of three always, always, always make sure that you're the one standing on the right because that way when they print the picture you'll be the one on the left. The caption will read "James St. James and bla bla bla" were seen, okay?" #podcast #partymonster #macaulayculkin #sethgreen #chloesevigny #natashalyonne #nyc #clubkids #truecrime #wilsoncruz #disco2000 https://www.instagram.com/p/CXraYu5Ovid/?utm_medium=tumblr

Pulp are to British pop (BritPop if you will) what Sheffield is to steel: shiny on the outside but hard as fucking nails on the inside. Sheffield was the place to be in the late 70s/early 80s for innovative electro new wave punk and post-punk pop. Although formed when Cocker and Co were but mere teenagers, they missed out on all the glory at the time. In fact, they missed out for a long time, having formed in 1978 and not seeing their first hit until 1994. Pulp are the definitive rags to riches story, an example of talent will out if you keep at it long enough. Not quite Human League, nor Cabaret Voltaire, and way before the overnight fame of The Arctic Monkeys, Pulp’s sound was described at the time as “a cross between ABBA and The Fall“. This compilation is not only a worthy introduction, if you happen to have had your head in a bucket in from 1995-1997, but it’s a good overview of their ‘commercial’, or rather successful years, with singles spanning their four albums from 1994’s His ‘n’ Hers to their swansong in 2001, We Love Life, produced by Scott Walker no less. My introduction to Pulp came from their first hit, Do You Remember The First Time? which made it to the Top 40 in the UK charts and the end-of-the-night rave up for every queer disco with the lines (always sung ironically of course) “Jesus, it must be great to be straight.” Their album following this, Different Class, won the Mercury Music Prize (beating Radiohead’s The Bends) and is without doubt the defining album of that year. This album and in particular the singles: Common People, Disco 2000, Sorted for E’s and Wizz are like injecting pure nostalgia into your veins. #pulp @pulpday #jarviscocker #commonpeople #disco2000 #doyourememberthefirsttime #compilationalbum #indiemusic #britpop90s #indiepop #nowplaying #recordcollection #randomrecordreview https://www.instagram.com/p/CL47-rVM4jh/?igshid=ujsyn4jp0ti2
#25yearsago #pulp #differentclass #disco2000 « Oh Deborah, do you recall? Your house was very small With woodchip on the wall When I came around to call You didn't notice me at all And I said "Let's all meet up in the year 2000 Won't it be strange when we're all fully grown Be there at 2 o'clock by the fountain down the road" I never knew that you'd get married I would be living down here on my own On that damp and lonely Thursday years ago » (à Sheffield) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHBoc4ZqYrv/?igshid=5jpc98mp9bua
