I found a disaster kit I didn’t know I had, packed and left behind by a former housemate. It was at the back of the deep cupboard closest to the back door. I found it after pulling out a partial bag of charcoal briquettes and a wad of newspapers.

The Must Have Items to Build a Family Disaster Kit

So I am absolutely terrified about what Trump’s going to do. As such, I have began to make a skeleton outline of survival necessities. I thought I’d share this with others who may want to just keep things into consideration. This is suitable for 4 to 5 people for THREE DAYS. 

Basic Survival Kit (Bare minimum for at least 72 Hours)

15 gallons of water (3 gallons per person, per day)

Non-perishable foods

Dried fruit

Crackers

Canned nuts

Cereal

Powdered milk

Dry pasta

Rice

Canned fruit

2 absorbent compress dressings (5 x 9 inches)

5 antibiotic ointment packets (approximately 1 gram)

5 antiseptic wipe packets

2 packets of aspirin (81 mg each)

1 space blanket

Sanitary pads, tampons, etc. 

1 breathing barrier (with one-way valve)

1 instant cold compress

2 pair of nonlatex gloves (size: large)

2 hydrocortisone ointment packets (approximately 1 gram each)

Disaster Preparedness for Farm Animals

When planning on disaster preparedness for farm animals, you must take into consideration their size, shelter needs and transportation issues.

Here are a few pointers to help you get your plan in place:

One everyday and disaster upgrade I gave myself was a camping stove. I have 3 cans of fuel but had no stove because I always borrowed a stove from housemates when I went camping in the past. When your housemates are vigorous hikers, they loan you stuff when they aren’t using it. Seriously.

This MSR stove (local product!) runs on multiple fuels. That’s my snazzy crowdfunded cooking pot that recharges devices. The stove and the fuel pump and the wind baffle all fit inside. That leaves the fuel bottle and pot-with-stove as the gear to deal with in storage or schlepping.
