Well then. I'm about to spit my word vomit, This is my post talking about first episode of the second season, twoidiotgermans' SFM TF2 series; The SERVERBLIGHT.
If you haven't heard this psychological horror SFM TF2 series, definitely check out binging with your friends at night time. It's a really good solid series to watch their humble beginnings. It's also required to have a knowledge of this game and community first. Zero jumpscares. There are two joke episodes (Halloween Special & Der_Key's video). One is a full-one-hour episode in one season. So an overall 14 episodes, if you don't count one teaser episode.
An inhuman horror stalks the dark corners of Team Fortress 2. Ever hungering, this beast will never rest until you have been made a part of
Spoilers on SERVERBLIGHT Season 2: Episode 1 - Fear, under the readmore button below:
We started the introduction of these two, Breadolphin and directionz, from the first episode. It showcases their human characteristics; a fear of the unknown between the fate and entity. The short cameo of dicksalot and GUILLIESUIT is a nice touch, to show the audience that it's a flashback episode, dedicating to breadolphin's story.
After the events of Reflections (7th episode, first season), Breadolphin came back playing TF2 despite the fact that he refused to return this cursed game. He started looking for his friend and investigated further beyond the pl_upward map. He tries to convince him to talk again, after he leaves him in the first episode. As the plot uncovers, he found the answer that his friend, directionz turned into blight. And the ending resolution for both of them is amazing!
Before i dive in the ending and thematic story, I'd love to give a credit from the overall production of this episode.
The animation details with this episode came out FANTASTIC. The main part of sudden scares are mostly eyes, and it acts like a security camera using the mercenary corpes. The mimicry alone is noticeable if any non-TF2 fans/players wouldn't understand it. The 3 deaths of BLU Scout is concerning, because it takes 2~5 seconds to respawn on the first point and he had to run around 6 seconds to get on the second point. Here, BLU Scout is respawned immediately. They were playing pretend with RED Engineer and used the wrong domination lines. It was for Demoman's.
I love the ragdoll deaths turned into realistic depiction of falling down the ground. According to the narrator of Proxy, PicNick (9th episode & blight cameo victim on 14th -final- episode, first season), it felt so painful that it releases the control from being paralyzed from Serverblight's phenomena effect; which it forces them to play and being toyed at. Not until he fell down the pit and immediately left the server.
The sound design and background music is so so good, it raises my skin to crawl out of it. I love the feel of despair and terror throughout the thrilling speculations. I'm not good at coming up with words to describe it though. You can always talk about it with reblogs/replies. In the horror scene, You can always try to hope but sometimes, it ends up no way out because you will only have one life.
If there's no way out... there's hope. When Breadolphin took his blame and called himself as a coward, he didn't realize that friendly fire can't shoot himself his gun, Ambassador. A dark humor contrasting the situation upon his doomed fate. Then, directionz stood there. His morbid appearances of hands tries to intimidate him, and Breadolphin is willing to take his life by becoming part of the blighted masses, filled with his torturing guilt. but directionz refuses to let them take the control, and tells him to run away, by saying his Scout's distorted voicelines "Go, Go, GO!". He took a headshot for him and ran away to the final point's pit. Breadolphin returned the final episode of the first season, Manipulation; to save dicksalot and Rubicon's ending from poor Nexos that turned into a blight.
Breadolphin's ending resolution is about accepting the past that cannot be changed. He was a coward, but he finally took control of his fear. To allow it, is to overcome their weaknesses and determine to change the fate, never repeating the same mistakes. dicksalot helped breadolphin and he was lucky he saved his ass; when he returned his favor, Breadolphin saved dicksalot and now it's Rubicon the only victim survived this disastrous event. He's done running away from cowardice and took his chance to run and save them. What a growth he deserved, next to dicksalot!
How the impact of saving one's life can change and start the bond between these three random ass players in god damn, 2007 game idiotic war hat pvp game. Now it's the Serverblight starts to ruin the game by consuming the amount of victims to satisfy its terror, learning to become one of the players and start to fill up servers of dead people.
Will the victims of blight players try to rebel against the Serverblight's control? directionz started showing his sheer determination of refusing the control from blight's. If this becomes united by mass hysteria of breaking away the strings being puppeted, then there is hope. Someone out there deeply cared for their friends to stay out of this and never come back. One day, when their bravery attempts to meet again. Hope and Despair determine their fate.
Overall, a good start of the first episode for this second season. Absolute Cinema.
