well its not fluff ☝️ BUT! it is a slapdash delulu copium ending to 730kc's comic from the wip trade ... i banged it out the night of so it's pretty disjointed, but basically the thought was shinichi throws his lot in with kid's and puts him to work ~for good to atone for the murder of some guy who prooobably wasn't that good anyways (assumption) so that's alright haha....? two guys sharing the burden of a sin ... ?

Rice! Rice! Rice! is a fic for the fandom TSME

The plot is: for years Daigo's dad had very weird pet project about making genetically modified rice in a small cliffside town in Hoenn. The idea was to use Hoenn's massive watermass to grow rice, but for that you need rice to be resistant to seawater -- hence setting a lab in that cliffside town, to experiment. It's called the RISA project

The town's mayor used to be in huge support of the project, and things were okay then, but after her death, huge protests started to crop up against it and people now want Devon Corporation OUT of the area. Daigo's dad is in hospital, still recovering from his stroke, so Daigo is sent to investigate after a huge fire broke through the seaborne lab, and it's heavily suspected to be manmade and intentional.

On arrival, he discovers that Alan and Manon are in the town as well. Manon even throws tomatoes at him along with the townspeople until she realises wait a minute it's Daigo-san! Alan is here because he was detached to Odamaki's lab and is here on an assignment

It's a detective story where Daigo searches for the culprit behind the fire and suspects three townspeople, while Alan refuses to believe it's them. One of the prime suspects is Koeda Nagisa, the daughter of the now deceased mayor. She and her wife both loathe Daigo, loathe the project, loathe everything Devon. The wife, Li Fengyan, is a suspect too.

Daigo doesn't really get the project himself, because Devon has never really been huge on GMOs, which makes it difficult to understand his father's obsession with this place. Part of him sees Nagisa's reasoning for wanting this project to disappear (against her dead mother's wishes). The other part believes maybe he should continue his father's legacy (all the more so when his father could die any day)
