Benji/Bengiakenj: No. They simply don't need one. There's three people in the relationship for two kids. Plus, Nonna and the other elders around town who are more than happy to watch the kids if they need. But most of the time I think a babysitter isn't even needed. I headcanon that Ben works from home for accessibility reasons, and once they're in school there's no issues because Gia gets home from work right when they get home from school. If they're going on a date, Nonna or a neighbor watches them.

Yasammy: No. I think that Yaz probably brought it up while Julie was a baby but Sammy shut it down. They have a neighbor or two that watches the girls if they're on a date, and they simply fly the girls out to New York or California to be with Aunt Brook and/or Uncle Darius if they're on an anniversary trip. But for day to day, no. Sammy works on the farm, so if the girls aren't at school they just help her out at the barn or ride their horses while mama's working. Yaz works out of an office and from home depending on the day, so sometimes she's even there to help out after school.

Dinostar: Absolutely they have a babysitter. I think Darius' mom was really not into the idea, because she's used to being the secondary caregiver for Brand's sons, but that just wasn't in the cards for them. I think they switch off between living in California and New York. Brooks job is primarily based out of New York, and Darius just wanted to keep his place in Cali. They both travel a lot for work, and even when Brooklynn's working from home she's gonna need an extra hand. I also think that even though Darius often comes to stay with Brooklynn for months at a time, and she likes to spend holidays with his family in Cali, they don't actually live together. Remember, they aren't married. This is a co parenting situation. So yes, they have a babysitter. Brooklynn probably paid a fuck ton of money to get the best of the best too. And of course, they both spend as much time with Ellie as they can, and once work is done she's their priority, but they're working parents.

“Brooklynn, I…” Brooklynn shoved Martin Krebs hard enough to send him into the wall, riled up with anger.

“You’re a monster, Martin Krebs! What did you do to her?!”

"She was calling for help!" His voice was maddeningly even. "On an open radio channel." 

"So what?! She was terrified!" 

"So the moment that mayday goes through, we'll have coastguard, authorities, and every relevant agency trying to figure out what an unregistered research vessel is doing in a restricted zone with illegal biopsy equipment and a live Mosasaurus blood sample." He let that sit for a second.

"This mission isn't exactly something we can explain to the authorities, Brooklynn. You knew that when you signed on."

She opened her mouth and closed it again. She hated that she understood what he was saying. 

She hated even more that some small, rational part of her brain was processing it while the rest of her was still feeling the horror of Teresa's fingers slipping out of her grip. 

"She needed your help!" She broke down anyway, still in disbelief. "She was screaming, and she was a kid, and she was terrified. How could you do this?!" 

"Brooklynn, if that call goes through, we don't just lose the mission. We lose everything! The sample, the research, the funding. Every person on this boat faces criminal charges. Including you!"

“Don’t you want to save your daughter?”

Tears streamed down Brooklynn’s face as she shook her head, still in shock. "Don't you dare use my daughter. Krebs, don't you dare use her against me right now."

"I'm not using her against you." He placed both hands on her shoulders. "I'm reminding you why you're here. You’re on this boat for a reason, Brooklynn, and it isn’t for them." 

“Don’t forget that!”

Brooklynn stood there for a moment after he said it, breathing, wondering how she got herself tangled up in this, in the first place. Darius was right. The fear of losing Isabella had led her to make so many wrong decisions, but having to choose the mission over saving a life was the worst of it.
