legit i wrote a letter to the editor of our local paper when i was 14, bitching about frames, images without alt-text, a lack of navigational menus, et cetera, prompted by an article about how you needed a 28.8kbps modem and a SLIP/PPP account in order to use the internet.
i was like, dude, fuck you, i use the internet just fine on an original-run IBM PC with no hard drive and a straight-up dialup to a BSD shell account, over telix on a 5.25" floppy disk at 2400 baud, and lynx is just fine for 'surfing' sites with actual WORDS on them, and don't forget gopher and usenet and IRC and MUDs/MUSHes, thank-you-very-much

(for the record, it was hosted at http://eyrie.stanford.edu/~brainy9/manifesto.html, which i edited live, by hand, in pico, on that BSD shell account-- which i still had, three years after that letter to the editor) (in fact, i still have that account, though the domain is different, and i sure as hell ain't linking to that space from tumblr)
