He smells the blood the instant Hare appears. And it terrifies him.  He tosses himself from the room he had been resting with Dirk in, quiet so as not to wake the boy. Eyes still red rimmed from crying because I let Hal get lost what if he’s dead if he’s dead I failed him I killed our mate only recently quelled by David’s assurance that Hal was okay.

This night couldn’t get any worse.

Except it can, because when he sees Hare he makes a terrible sound, strangled in his throat. He all but jumps on the boy, tearing his own shirt off to stem the flow of blood. Storming into the bedroom to wake Dirk after lifting the rabbit boy into his arms.

“Fi-fi-fif-fix-fix-fix-fifif-fi Fi-fFix h-h-h-im-h- Fix Him!” he demands, and he’s crying again, Dirk is groggy, wakes to the smell of blood almost his own in scent.

“Wh?”

x sits beside the blonde, Hare held to his chest. “y-y-you m-am-amammade him f-f-fix-fix h-h-him!”

He looks down at Hare, wild eyed. “w-w-w-wak-wake you aw-wake w-wake up-up-wakeup!” he begs. “I-i-i-if y-yo-you sts-stay aw-awake I-I-I’ll g-ge-get-get you an-any-any c-candy y-y-you you y-you wan-want”

He feels stupid for crying. Stupid for jostling hare the way he is. He’s run out of tears, and now it’s venom leaking down his cheeks from the corners of his eyes burning burning sugarsweet in scent. Sticky thick and disgusting.
