problems are starting to arise.
[mini drabble]
Anna stares down at the water. Itâs up to her knees now, the sloshing slowly getting worse. Thunder rolls around her softly.
âHey! Anna!â Max calls from his platform high above her. âUp here! Are you okay?â
Anna looks up slowly at him. She looks downright miserable. Thereâs bags under her eyes, and she looks as though sheâs been crying. âWhat did you do?â
âNothing,â Max says, clearing his throat. âNothing. I didnât-â he sighs, trying to think of how to explain this. âI donât know,â he admits.
Thunder cracks from within the walls, making Max jump.
Anna stays perfectly still as she watches him sadly.
âWe gotta get you out of here,â Max says. âYou canât stay here.â
âYou ruined my home,â Anna says, sniffling. âI donât want to go with you.â
âYou donât have a choice, Anna. Itâs either us, or death.â
Anna steps back.
Max can see a drop off behind her. A wave pool, swirling in the middle into god knows where.
âAnna,â he says cautiously, âyou need to come with us.â
âWhy should I? So you can ruin other peopleâs homes?â
âBecause you can help us fix it,â Max says. âAnd everyone elseâs.â
Anna looks around at her crumbling home. The ceiling is crying, the water fountains are cracking. The storm only grows louder, more violent.
The water pushes her back, closer towards the whirlpool.
âAnna!â
Anna gasps as she stumbles back, falling backwards.
Max snaps out of the dimension, back in just in time to catch her, and back out.
Anna flops out of Maxâs arms, hitting the ground with a thud. She shakes, hugging herself. Silent tears get smeared over her cheeks.
âWhat the fuck did you do to her?â Darby asks, getting in Maxâs face the second after he lays eyes on Anna. âYou were just supposed to ask for help, not traumatize her!â
âHer world was falling apart, shithead,â Max hisses. âWhat else was I supposed to do? Let her drown?â
âYou canât just snatch people up, Max, that messes with them.â
âOh, yeah, like youâd know, you freak of nature.â
Orange crouches down next to Anna as Max and Darby argue. He puts a hand on her shoulder. âYouâre gonna be okay,â he says quietly.
Anna looks up at him. She grabs his hand and squeezes tightly.
