      there's such an heavy, frustrated sigh following diluc's words that can't be repressed: great, just what he needed. someone else to look at him with the idea of hidden potential. sometimes, people simply refused to aknowledge that their knowing eye failed them.

      ' i sure hope not, ' he grimaced to show his complete displeasure at the statement. ' i just exist to do my job in scheduled hours, and relax back at home. nothing more and nothing less. ' or he would have done so the literal second he could resign from his current position, and return to his old job.

   DILUC WYM... he’s a disaster... wanted to make the kaeya nation proud but is the baby of the group........

diluc, it appears, is slowly losing the battle of the wills between himself and whatever bug he's caught. he's glowering from behind the bar counter, his scowl impressive in its sheer intensity --- and the deadpan tone with which he voices his complaints very nearly pushes the whole scenario into the realm of the absurd.

"in fact, i may be actively dying right now."

   the first words make kaeya feel a twinge of panic- he smooths that over with praticed ease, blinking up at diluc. oh... not literally, huh. it’s a flu, maybe.

   ‘ now i know where i got the dramatic flair i have from, ‘ he jokes, voice gentle. ‘ did you took an antistaminic? i can get one for you, and... ‘

   well, actually...

   ‘ scratch that. let me take the shift, ‘ kaeya says without hesitation, standing up and patting diluc on the head reassuringly. pat pat! from his little brother, with all the gentlest humiliation in the world.

   you know how, by now, he recognized diluc’s cadence of steps? the stomps are nothing new to him, peeking his head outside of the apartment both full of hope and fear. and... no one in sight. 

   he’s a little sad about that, but... just when he’s about to close the door, he spots the package. which is swiftly picked up and cradled to his chest like it’s the most precious thing he ever received.

   he must do something to let diluc knows that he cares.

   the day after, there’s a rather large, tall package being delivered to the dawn winery! a fool may think of it as a beautiful gift. instead-

it's hardly a question, more a demand for answers; diluc is visibly prickling, clenching and unclenching his fist as if his knuckles are longing for a jaw to break.

"kaeya ... who upset you ?"

' i'm fine, 'luc. '

it's a praticed answer, one that flows with smooth ease. his small smile never falthers, his posture never tenses. he's perking elegantly as he can be, watching his brother building himself up in rage with curiosity in his eyes.

there are moments to dwell on things, but this is, well... not the correct one. the wound is too fresh, the pressing matter of the fact that what little dreams he had were crushed the second he vocalized them, that it has all been useless from the start is not pleasant to think about.

but there's no way that he's burdening his brother with that, is he?

he descends from the stool, takes a couple of steps, and wraps his arms around him. safe, comforting and soundly full of love.

his upset can come later.

you know who had a great adoptive family that actually loved him despite his flaws? this guy!

you know who now firmly believes that he isn't worth the bother of diluc still taking care of him after he fucked it up so badly? THIS GUY!

he's extremely fucking confused because diluc hasn't said outright that he forgives him. he has, at some point, thought that diluc was still sneaking into his dingy apartment and taking care of him to fuck with him, that he was a fucking hallucination, and at that point i'd tell him that he's right. his paranoia and guilt about what went down is SO strong, and he wasn't even involved......
