how the helly we draw anthro legs

YO! I'm glad you asked! (sorry for the late response)

I'm not the best at tutorials, but here's a little visual on how I go about this! Anthro (digitigrade) legs are defined primarily by their prominent curve of the upper leg and angled features. Animals with these legs walk on their toes rather than keeping their foot flat on the ground (pantigrade). I won't get too technical other than that, but those are important things to note!

Simple shapes are an absolutely vital part of the drawing process as a whole, so why not use them for drawing digi legs too? I typically start with the thigh, then the ankle, and keep going down. Remember to keep the knees bent and the heels off the ground!

Keep in mind that I typically draw in a cartoony style, so this isn't the most realistic thing, but it's basic and works for starters!

(I don't have a specific tutorial on unguligrades, AKA deer legs, so i personally just add an extra curve by the foot and wing it. Everything i do is completely rawdogged LMAO😭)

It's a sunday strip of the first technical appearance of plantigrade snoopy. Charles Schulz has gotten really good up to this point at drawing snoopy as a quadruped with digitigrade legs, and far and away from his bug-in-a-rug appearances from the beginning of the 1950s, 1956 see's Snoopy at his most elongated, lol.

As he slides off of the piano, however, Charles seems to have changed Snoopy's legs for just a brief moment, and he draws his legs with a very straight-and-narrow leg shape, familiair to plantigrade stance.

Update: Yeah, i was right, the very next volume (1957-1958 Fantagraphics) has plantigrade stance Snoopy right on the cover, and assuming his more familiar form almost an entire year after, too.

I love snoopy in all his forms, but cute smol Snoopy and lanky, longo Snoopy will always be my favorites, lol.

Update 2: Ah, so It's Charlie Brown himself that teaches Snoopy to walk plantigrade, who'd have thought?
