I later said that the SJW I was harassing knew nothing of genetic variation and what Natural Selection is. They seemed to think that disabled people were a separate race to the rest of humanity and evolved alongside it. To the point - surely "BUT refusing me an accounting or box lifting position WOULD be discrimination, according to the law, Just So You Know." is the crux of the matter? Practically, it makes no sense for you to lift shit. That's not just mindless ableism.
I don't think it's mindless ableism at all, but I also don't call things ableism, or fight petty SJ battles (I try my best to ignore them)
It is against the law to discriminate against people in hiring practices.
People with life-long disabilities work within their ability level. No one would willingly forgo working and earning a living for the sweet sweet SSI Cash, mostly because it leaves you deeply below the poverty line, and broke as shit for life. Sometimes it can take years to figure out what accommodations are necessary (especially with mental illness) and then find an employer that can work with that, but sometimes disability will leave a person unable to work, no matter the accommodations available. It's foolish and shortsighted to think it's easy to get employment or be employed or stay employed as a disabled person. Or that employment is a level playing field for us EVEN WITH accommodation. Or that ANYONE actually benefits from EEOC complaints about employment discrimination.
Besides, I'd really only need a few straps, a dolly, and breaks every 10-15 mins as accommodation in a box lifting job; it may be hard for believe, but I can still move boxes, I just do it differently. And suffer for it later, cuz it hurts like a mother fucker
My point is that you can't say "every one should be equal" and "disabled people shouldn't have accommodations to help them work" because it's a contradiction.Â
