I feel like some of you are misinformed about digital media so let me explain it and compare it to physical media.
Digital media, like games and movies, are a license to use that specific form of media, you don't actually own it. It's more like renting something out and it can be taken away from you if the company you brought it from decides to.
With physical media you own that copy and it is legally yours, if anyone were to take it away from you that would be stealing.
Digital media is only so popular because of its convenience, you don't have to make discs, cartridges and cases to distribute it.
So shouldn’t digital media be cheaper than physical media since the company didn’t have to ship it out and make extra parts for it?
Gosh no.
It would actually cost you more to buy digitally if physical media didn’t exist because of hidden costs like the platformer, you can’t buy digital media if there’s no online store to get it from.
This doesn’t mean all online stores are evil though. Game companies, like steam, sell unpopular games that can’t make disk copies so the developers can still make money. And occasionally you can find an online copy to be cheaper than its physical counterpart but that’s extremely rare.
The only downside to physical media is that discs and cartridges can get damaged or lost.
Oh you thought there’d be more downsides?
Keep on dreaming buddy.
Digital media on the other hand, is only a license that can be revoked, it’s more expensive below the surface and you need internet access to buy/refund it.
Buying that game in store is far better and you’re actually supporting a real life business so more people can get jobs, especially since most of these stores are small businesses and have starter job positions for young workers so you’re helping out the local community, which is always a plus!
So yes, buy that game in store, don’t let these big companies brainwash you into thinking that buying a license is the real deal, it’s just a monopoly.
Also, fuck you Sony. 凸( •̀_•́ )凸
Okay bye.
