āBritainās infrastructure policies and plans do not at first sight refer much to the requirements of the EU....The UK largely invented the role of economic regulators for specific industries. As they have evolved over the last quarter-century their role has changed with the rise in importance of environmental concerns and the focus on infrastructure as a generator or facilitator of growth and productivity. Brexit offers the opportunity to rethink the political economy of how the UKās regulation of such sectors can develop to be fit for the twenty-first century.ā
