I’m reading this analysis on the world building in Adventure (episode 2 specifically, you can find it on this blog that you should totally check out while you’re at it) and I kind of want Bandai to retcon Gomamon’s ability to control fish into there being a fish Digimon species that Gomamon can rule over.
I mean for one thing the fish Gomamon summons already look colorful and extremely different from regular fish (as far as Adventure goes at least), so they could easily pass for like, Baby Level Digimon as far as designs go. They also seem to have unusual abilities such as flying so clearly they’re not regular fish.
(To be fair it would’ve been kinda morbid if we did watch the Chosen eat fish that looked identical to ones that saved them just hours earlier the same day... But fish in Adventure make no bloody sense anyways)
With five different designs you could easily do the same thing with these fish as Xros Wars did with Pickmons, there being three types of Pickmon (yellow, silver and rare), and just say that these “Fishmon” tend to only show up in shoals. Like seriously this would be an very easy retcon to do (at the same time it is so minor that Bandai doesn’t really have any reason to do so I guess)
The other thing is, if the the shellfish on Octmon get to be a separate species of Digimon that we only ever see on Octomon, then why the hell can’t Gomamon’s fish be a species of their own too? Like c’mon.
(And no that’s not a joke, in case someone didn’t know, see those tiny yellow pairs of dots on Octmon’s pot? They’re Fujitsumon, and they don’t even have a Digimon Reference Book Entry of their own)
