What helped you to improve your art skills the most?
1. By paying attention to what I like in other's art and by attempting to repeat that. "Oh these colours are splendid how did the author do that" then I google about it, ask them, or just take their work and put it in my art program and try to replicate the thing i like, or use the colour-picking tool and try to understand what's repeating. Also i tend to just try and remember the details i liked in other's works. Also you can use real photo references and attempt to repeat them as well, that's how studying usually goes. And maybe ask somebody for direct advice about your specific piece, i did that a lot until recent years
2. By drawing a LOT. My art drastically improved when i got hooked on Rain World and drew hundreds of images, even though i rarely ever sat down and actually studied i guess
I'm pretty sure The Drastic Improvement is an actual thing for many beginner+ artists, but after that there's a bit of a stagnation (waving my hand) if you don't sit down and actually study stuff
But DON'T force yourself to draw * and dont get crazy counting your works just draw what you want and find inspiring stuff
3. I guess by not beating myself up??? Not too much at least???? Art skill comes from observation, practice, and studying, that's it. All you need is patience and consistency. Constant negative self-talk never helps in the end, ESPECIALLY when it comes to a craft that is so much connected to your self-expression and soul. If you tend to negatively self-talk, you need to stop – it's not that easy by any means, but I think it's important and i think it really slows down self-growth in general and in any area, actually
Y’all check out my frog

Okay self, do I really want to drop a couple of hundred dollars on cold process soap making supplies or do I want to be a responsible adult this month and not do that.

Practising furr texture Im now envious of cats who just spit out furballs like that :p (Spending so much time on my portfolio XP)
Here I sketched out with a white fabric chalk to outline where I want to stitch over by hand using different techniques of embroidery to show more depth into my samples and work throughout. This sample is linked to the neuron in the brain showing what it looks like microscopically and wanted to show you how I create this sample based on the se techniques I chose such as felting,French knots and overlapping chains to show a more 3D effect. Making my samples alive.
