Differences.
Often we find ourselves getting into debates about life, politics and the likes. There will always be that one person that cannot relate to you and probably the majority that agrees with what you are saying. Because of this, you don't seem to reach an agreement of any kind with this person.
Just a while ago I had an interesting conversation with someone regarding the form of discipline that is used back home. He could not relate whatsoever as he had never received a hiding from anybody in his family ever. We also spoke about life in the township and the things that seemed normal to us at the time, he could not say much as he didn’t experience township life at all. I suppose it's safe to assume he was a “rich” kid that had the nicer things in life..
The conversation went to a point where things like #feesmustfall were mentioned and he simply said that he didnt really care since he could afford fees and was therefore unnaffected by it. This led to a whole lot of noise regarding racial issues and financial matters. The arguement went nowhere at all. It made me realise that I can’t expect a person raised in a different household from mine, to undertand how I feel about a certain situaton. However, I feel that it is wrong for that person to criticise the efforts of everyone else that revolt against a sytem that they dont agree with.
Yes, not all rich kids can relate to the kids that want free education or less fees for all. To them it seems easy to just say “ go to a school you can afford then”, “don’t go to an afrikaans school if you know you’ll feel excluded”. The rest of us feel ike everyone deserves an equal opportunity to do things that they feel will benefit them positively. But then again that’s just my opinion.
