Father and Son Bonding: Jim and Mission Marcus
Some Americans could see family bonding like the Griswolds: pack up the wagon, drive west, visit tourist traps, and take pictures. Jim and Mission Marcus are close: pack up the van, hit the clubs, and play hard. For this father and son team, family bonding is playing in the industrial dance/rock band Go Fight.
Jim Marcus is a man of many images. He pushed boundaries during his time with the industrial powerhouse Die Warzau—championing gender equality, LGBT rights, and anti-war movements. Even for a person who appears to have several personas, Jim's major accomplishment is simple: fatherhood. He always wanted to be a dad and taking his son Mission on tour is a "life long dream." Before Mission leaves for his freshman year of college, Jim finally gets to see his dream come true.
On their tour supporting Jim's friend En Esch (formerly of KMFDM), Jim takes Mission under his wing. Mission feels that playing and touring with his dad pushes him as a performer. Supporting Go Fight on bass allows Mission, who's primarily a guitar player, to grow. Jim could not be prouder of Mission and reiterates how having an "amazing musician" as a son only reminds him of how lucky he is to have children.
Having a great family is letting them know you love them. "The number one thing kids can tell is are you enjoying them. Are you really enjoying being with them?" says Jim. "I got really lucky. I mean, I enjoy my kids so much. It is such an amazing time. And I feel like ever since they were really little they had to have known."
