❛ — you up ? ❜ the question escaped her quietly , even more so than usually because , well , it was late . just because vampires were nocturnal creatures , it didn't mean sibella didn't understand common courtesy . besides , she'd been sort of hoping diablo would be in deep sleep by now — he deserved to rest , especially after such a long day . the vampire was both surprised by and proud of him for spending that much time outside ; maybe he was getting better after all .

hearing diablo say she's what he was thinking about brought a tiny grin to the corner of her lips , then a squeeze to her heart . was she happy ? elated , but that had proven to be a bad omen in her relationships as of recent years . blood on the moon . she brings their hands close to her lips , pressing a small kiss to his . the struggle he mentions when looking for reasons why she would stick around makes her hold back a laugh , because she knows he means it earnestly despite how serious he is . he doesn't see himself the way she does , sad as it is . feeling his kiss on her forehead makes sibella close her eyes , enjoying the brief tingle it leaves on her skin before something else steals her attention . i don't ever want you to leave .

that wasn't the real problem , was it ? quite the opposite really . still , sibella listened . ❛ you say that now , ❜ carefully , making sure not let go of his hand , she sat up . ❛ but there'll come a point when it's the only thing either of us can think about . ❜ lips press together , forming a straight line as she gathers her thoughts then shakes her head lightly . ❛ but i'm not leaving . i - i've made that mistake before , it was selfish , ❜ and it hurt louie . lifting her gaze , her free hand carefully reached out to fix diablo's hair , away from his eyes . ❛ but i need you to promise me something , too . ❜

when sibella came up with the idea to walk diablo home from work , she didn't really consider how silly she probably would look to any passerby should there be anyone out and about this late into the night . she could practicly hear maddox yelling from across the street about how she looked more like a lost girl scout than vampire royalty , with the way her bag was practically overflowing with tomes borrowed from the public library ( thanks phyllis ! ) . she didn't usually present herself like this when venturing to places like wonderland , but it was funny to think of how diablo had become her main reason for still frequenting the club . her only reason , really . maybe at first she'd been intrigued by the aesthetics or the copious amounts of red , but that really only happened the first couple of times , until it wasn't about any of that at all . many of the things she did were for and because of diablo these days .

there's something to be said about the hesitance to go home , how strange of a feeling it is and how its very existance challenges what a home is , what it represents . it wasn't until very recently that sibella started dreading being home , a closed environment where she had no option but to face the current state of affairs ; her ever growing dependency on diablo , the urges growing deep inside her undead self and with that , coming to terms with her true nature — particularly the vampiric side .

another year had gone by and with that , the first quarter of her first century on earth . it wasn't long by vampire standards , but long enough to imagine how the rest of her life would be . no more growing older , just lonelier and hungrier but at least she had the ghouls and diablo . when did that shift from being a comforting thought to a worry ? having someone means you might lose them ; how was she supposed to live with that , just after what had been the happiest year of her life ? would she ever move on from it if she had to , and could she ?

it called for an experiment , one sibella would've stopped herself from following through had she been in a better state of mind , of spirit . coming home with fresh blood coating her lips all the way down her neck probably wasn't a good idea and neither was drinking from some random person yet there she was , flying in through the open window like a criminal avoiding the front door . the picture of despair itself . she wasn't expecting diablo to be there by the time she came home though , and the surprise was enough to make her turn away in attempt to hide .

ever since officially moving in , sibella found there were no actual downsides to living with diablo . having half a bed to yourself isn't a huge price to pay when you're sharing it with your other half and frankly , it was still more spacious than the average coffin . there was also the unspoken rule she'd established for herself of never going to bed without diablo unless there was an actually reason to , like a graveyard shift or an emergency call from the ghouls . that , however , wasn't the case tonight , so she waited . all bundled up on the couch with hex in her lap and carmilla draped around her neck , finishing some b horror movie . a girls night , if you will .

❛ — and this is why we don't try to recite anything in a dead language without proper research . don't you go getting any ideas , ladies ! ❜ the vampire warned sweetly , booping the feline's little nose just before the she heard the door open . though sibella was more than ready to hop off the couch and rush to the door , something made her hesitate ; the scent of diablo's blood , which didn't seem quite right . ❛ you're back ! and just in time to see ash burn the book . oooh ! ❜ she called with a giggle , tentatively stretching her neck as far as it could go without disturbing the snake to get a good look at the door . ❛ i was starting to wander where you went ... everything okay ? ❜
