For those that are not friends with me on Facebook, this was part of my reason for coming back. In January, I was diagnosed with a rare type of skin cancer called Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans (DFSP). They removed the tumor itself in January and I just had a surgery a week and a half ago that extracts healthy cells to determine if all of the cancer was caught and removed.
When I say this cancer is rare, I mean RARE. We are talking like 0.8 to 4.5 people per million people are diagnosed with this cancer per, so roughly 1000 to 5000 people. This cancer starts in the second layer of the skin, the dermis, and it shows as a raised mass under the skin. They found my tumor in my abdominal skin and fat. It is classified as a non-melanoma skin cancer.
Thankfully, this cancer is slow growing and not aggressive. The survival rate is 99% after treatment and the prognosis is excellent. Still, just hearing the word cancer can send you into a tailspin and I definitely needed an escape. Hence, my clumsy return to Tumblr.
tl;dr: Cancer sucks and I need to think less.
