I know that this was just a what if scenario, but what did Kenji think about the whole, being adopted by someone who killed his stepfather and suddenly being lifting into a different environment and what he thought about reader

A/N:Hi! I love this question. So this is going to be a long answer, so sorry about that. I’ll put a read more below this.
CW: Mentions of child abuse and trauma
When Kenji stepfather was killed by Naoyas men, Kenji obviously was there to witness what happened. He didn’t see IT happening but he saw the body, he saw the men pointing a gun at him. He obviously was terrified but he had grown a little hard from the tough upbringing with his stepfather, each beating stripped away a piece of his childhood away and even at such a young age he was preparing himself for dying. He had wished so many times to never see him again, prayed that he never came home that he thought maybe this was the price for his wish.
Then comes Reader, screaming and fighting the men that had just killed his stepfather. He’s not dumb, he knows she works with them but Kenji is just surprised to see someone actually caring for him, let alone a strange woman he literally just met. So when she stands in front of him, pulling her own gun out as she’s screaming she’s going to kill them all if they dare even touching him, the only thing he can do is hold onto her.
After Reader took him she knew she had to go see Naoya but she couldn’t bring him with her, so he left him with Toji so he could protect him. And it wasn’t easy at all to get him to stay, he screamed, cried, kicked, punched, anything he could do to not get separated from Reader. Eventually, she managed to pull herself away from him but she promised him she would be back.
After everything is settled things are definitely not easy. When reader is back he isn’t talking which she things is understandable given the circumstances. Then another day goes by. And another. And another. Halfway through the second week Reader calls Shoko and brings him to her. Shoko tells her that this isn’t something physical but mental and he should really see a child therapist and recommends someone.
After going back and forth on it, she decides to have a sit down with Kenji. Both of them sat down at the kitchen table and Reader made hot chocolate with marshmallows for him.
“Kenji.” You called, the little kid lifting his gaze from the cup of hot cocoa.
No answer
“I know what you’ve been through is… a lot. Way too much for a kid your age.” Your voice broke mid sentence. “I want you to know that you don’t have to be scared anymore. The scary men that went to your house will never, ever hurt you again.”
No answer.
You sighed.
“I also want to apologize to you. I’m sorry I caused all of this, I’m sorry I took away the family you had left. I’m sorry I’m the reason why you were taken from your home. I’m sorry I was the reason you were put in that position in the first place.”
You continued your rambling, apologizing for everything you could think about but Kenji only looked at you with a blank stare.
“I understand if you don’t want to stay with me. I can arrange for you to stay with someone else I trust to keep you safe.” You wanted to grab his hand but you hesitated, choosing not to do it as not to make him uncomfortable. “I don’t want to force you to stay with the monster that took everything away from you.”
A minute went by and he didn’t answer, so you assumed he wanted to be sent away. You began standing up but he stopped you.
His words stopped you.
“You’re not a monster.” His words came out a little strangled from not using his voice in a while. “He was.”
It took you a minute to process what he said and Kenji had never seen someone as angry as you before.
“He? You mean your dad?”
“He's not my dad.” Kenji answered angrily. “He married my mom.”
You gulped down the anger that came out of you.
“Is he the one that did that?” You pointed at his almost completely healed busted lip. You had assumed it was Naoya’s men who did that considering they were ready to kill the kid.
He nodded.
“I hated him. I wanted him to die.”
His eyes watered and for the first time in a long time he felt a heaviness leave his chest.
Your heart clenched at his words as he fought the tears. You looked him in the eyes and you almost thought you were looking at yourself in the mirror.
Anger, resentment, frustration, bitterness. Each one of them trying to corrupt this kid, who has barely even seen the world yet he had gone through so much.
And something in you sparked that day. You didn’t want this kid to have a life like yours. You wanted to be able to laugh and experience everything that was good in life without the hardships and tribulations he had already faced. You wanted this kid to be able to live the life you always dreamed of but never got to.
You wanted him to be happy.
“I don’t want to leave. Please don’t leave me. I promise I’ll be good.”
You stood up, reaching for him to engulf him in a tight hug.

I know sleeping around wasn't a big deal in I hate you but will reader find out Sukuna slept with others during their time apart? They were official and he promised he'd be back. If a man claimed to love me that much but fucked another bitch in the years we were apart (even with good "reasons" for being apart) it's over 🔪 I hope reader gives him hell for it. I know reader also slept with others but her actions seem more reasonable. It seems she moved on or was trying to even if it was out of spite lol. It seemed like he'd never be back. But Sukuna knew he'd go back to reader eventually, so his actions are yikes. Am I making a big deal about this? Is this even relevant to the plot of the story? I don't see myself as reader but it still hurts and I feel for her. If it was me, I'd be devastated.
Hiii I don’t think you’re making a big deal about this, it is something that will be relevant to the story at some point but mainly what you feel is similar to how reader feels.
I don’t want to give too many spoilers about it but she already knows. And even if she wasn’t certain about it she has a good idea that he didn’t really stayed celibate. Also another “spoiler” ig is that he really didn’t plan to come back. He didn’t lie to reader when he said he would come back in a year but things happened and he decided to stay away.
Honestly it’s just a really tough time for our poor reader, that’s why I’m also bringing someone that’s going to give Sukuna a run for his money

Yesss, you're a 100% right with Reader needing to let herself rely on someone and unfortulately Sukuna is not really that person right now, regardless of whether he's trying or not. However, Reader will always feel that pull towards Sukuna because she feels he's the one that has accepted her 100% so the question is now, will Higuruma be as accepting of all of her sides just as Sukuna is? 👀
Like I said, I wasn't lying when I said Higuruma was going to be a STRONG contender for Readers heart. He is a positive change in readers life and now is up to Sukuna to catch up, if he can.
